I'm in transition year and we have to do this project on a career we wish to persue in the future. I am really keen on doing forensic science but I have been told I should do a science degree first. So would anyone know if you can actually do some sort of forensic science course in college without having to do a science degree or if you do have to do a science degree, the best colleges to do it in.Appreciate any info given
    Thanx

    Hey Niamh,

Uhm it depends on what area of forensic science you're interested in pursuing. If you do a general science degree you could go to Strathclyde in Scotland and do a masters in forensic science.

As far as I know DIT have introduced a forensic science course and also Athlone IT have a forensic toxicology course.

When I applied to the CAO in '02 these were only very new courses so I couldn't really tell you much about them. I'm sure if you looked up their websites you'll find more information.

Mr. Daly's brother is a forensic scientist so he may be able to help you out too :D

DCU BSc in Analytical Science and Strathclyde for the MSc in forensic science is your best bet. DCU does a module on forensic analysis in that degree and has guest lecturers from different forensic fields for it.

I would warn you well that forensic science isn't quite like CSI on TV and that its well worth investigating whats actually involved.

Thanx for your info and ye I know it wont be like CSI or anything like it is in America but it is something I would like to do in the future. I also heard you could do it through the guards but it probably would be a better option to do it by doing a science degree first. If all comes to all I suppose I could just do like biotecnology or something or to do something with art which I was thinking about as another alternitive.
