Folks, this is not a medical board
but this question is administrative not medical.

How much does you GP charge for a visit?

    I'll start the ball rolling.

    Cork EUR35

Great thread - I'm looking for a GP at the moment (having just moved form the UK where the GP is paid for out of taxation, rather than at point of service).

If your GP charges less for repeat prescriptions, please specify too.

    thanks,

    journeyman

[I've removed the name in case something comes up about discrimination if thats possible :)] Dublin 2. He charges whatever he feels is fair really. If you're in college he'll charge you around €15. Around €15-20 for an apprentice. I've certainly neve heard of anyone been charged more than €25 by him. He knows his stuff too.

BTW, I had an ingrown toe nail a while back and had to get it removed in the Baggot Street clinic. Its a GP that does it but he didn't charge me anything. He asked me if I had a medical card, I told him no and he said it doesn't matter, its free anyway.

What is the general story with "medical certs"

Never had to get one myself, but in college people who submit essays late, and want to avoid penalties need them.

is it a letter on headed paper saying "This is to confirm that John SMith was under my care on this date with this condition" or what?

I imagine you will have 3 types (a) pre-printed type for social welfare with the details to be filled in (b) pre-printed type specific to the doctor's practice for other uses (c) detailed medical reports on headed notepaper that might be from one paragraph to several pages in length.

Regarding charges (a) is paid for by the Department, so you shouldn't be charged. (b) should be included in the consultation charge (c) is likely to incur charge.
