€250 should get you something, certainly. I got my main system from www.hificomponents.de for an extremely good price (under half what it was costing in Peats, even with the delivery). Delivery is quite expensive, however they have decent receivers starting at €192.

Another place to look is www.richersounds.ie, which are not quite as cheap on the goods, but are much cheaper on the delivery. They start with a Sony at €180 and have another two options (Pioneer or Yamaha) under €250.

An alternative is to keep looking out for something secondhand here on boards - I got a Sony 5.1 for a second system here for I think €125 some time ago, and I've seen stuff go for less more recently. Put an ad up in the "wanted" section.

Be carefull with the Aldi 5.1, I don't think it has a decoder. Check it before you buy. Try Creative Labs they do a lot of stuff.
