Floppy drive (yes floppy drive!) problem

Im after upgrading my PC. Bought a new motherboard/cpu/ram/graphics card. I got everything (almost) working. I went to install the floppy drive just now but it wasnt detected. I've tried different cables but it's not getting found. I took a look at the socket on the motherboard where the floppy plugs into (dunno the name of it) and noticed that three of the golden prongs are missing, rather than just one. Im guessing that this is what's causing the drive not to work.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is this fixable? I dont know whether it was like this when I bought it or if I somehow broke it. Thanks!

Did you check your jumper setting (does it have any?) on the back of the floppy drive. Is it set to master or slave or cable select.

This may not be the issue.

Are you sure they aren't bent back - happens if you miss align the connector and then force it home.

Is the light on all the time - if so the the cable is on upside down, also because of the twist it matters which end of the cable is connected to the FDD and which to th emother board

Red Stripe goes to Pin 1 , (or if you are lucky pin 34 will be numbered too)

The pins are definately gone, not just bent back. I dont think the whole master/slave thing is the issue here as I didnt see any jumper settings.

The light did come on once but it was yellow.. other than that it just stayed unluminated (is that a word?). I'll try and mess around with the wires a bit more but Im pretty sure that the wire was the right way around etc.

Is it possible to fix if the prongs are missing? Would that actually cause it to not work? I've also tried another floppy drive in the machine, forgot to mention that. It didn't work either. Im setting up another machine atm so I'll be able to check both floppy drives on that.
