Is Plustron Home Cinema System in Dunnes any good?

Did anyone get that Plustron Home Cinema System that's on sale in Dunnes for E85? It's been on sale in there for the last week or so, i think.

    This one: getimg.ids?id=1635

But they still have a couple in my local Dunnes and am seriously considering getting one.

Are they any good? Cos i bought a DVD Player from Dunnes last year - bought it for E50 because it would play practically any disc you threw at it. But it's not a great machine - whirrs a lot and is stubborn with discs that contain long animated menus.

So, for anyone that bought it, how's it working out? Is it multi-region / play DVD+R's etc?

Well ive been on the look out for one for my dad for x-mas and to buy stands with the system usually brought the price over E100 so it seems cheap. But 40watt I dont think is great. Ill post here later letting ya know if the 40watt part is good or bad. One bad thing is they dont mention if it is Dolby or 5.1 sound.

    Ok then...

    Thanks all!

    Sounds like a conclusive 'no'..!

EDIT: Just had a re-look at that JPEG i posted of it with information on it. It says 80W output power... not 40 watt!

I just saw this as searching for link on cheap printer cartidges. I got one of these - was a disaster bought it back and got money back next day. Sound was crap and mad hissing noise out of speakers, couldnt find how to make it multi-region anywhere and general picture quality not good at all.

Wasnt impressed but I suppose what do you expect for 85 quid, ended up getting a Philips dvd/vcr home cinema system (450W) that am well happy with, so just in case your tempted, the resounding NO was correct!

i worked in Dunnes in Leopardstown part time for a couple of years about 4 years ago.
bought this system and i think its as good as any of the bigger brands.

i recently got a blu ray player for my room and have it hooked up to this system now and it is absolutely immense! it was well worth the 90 euro! never had any problems with it. i will continue to use it until the day something actually happens to it. 4 years old and still as good as when i first bought it.

bought it with the xmas bonus from Dunnes too :D
