I know this is not a medical board admin... but I would appreciate any advice.
My daughter suffers from excessive sweating. It has really runined her confidance and she says she thinks about it very day. She is in College but would prefer to go and get a job but feels she cant wear "normal" clothes.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
or has anyone else had this problem?

    Get her this.

    It is fantastic.

Apply 2/3 times a week at first, then reduce the frequency gradually. Bear in mind her body may compensate for the area she's targeting.

Also have a look here for more hints and tips.

    Hope that helps.

Ask your doctor, as thyroid problems can give this symptom. If that gets all clear, some vitamin and herbal supplements help, but youd have to ask a health shop, I cant remember the names, sorry

I sweat loads cos of my thyroid - I used to be really self concious abt it!! Anyhoos all that changed when there was a "What deodarant do you use" thread on Boards a while ago and people were recommending Mitchum. I've used it since and haven't had an embarrasing moments!! THANKS BOARDSIES!!! :D

bring her to the doctor, as people have said above it could be thyroid problems. Deoderant -yeah, but your supposed to sweat to rid your body of toxins so with deoerants like mitchum which stop you sweating altogether I cant personlly see (not being a doctor) how that can be healthy in the long term.
I remembr a girl in school who had incredibly sweaty hands and she had a small operation done to control it. No harm in getting her to visit a doc anyways

If she feels really uncomfortable about going to doctor or something, as I'm sure you have already suggested that, why not get her to chat to her pharmacist? They can sometimes help, free and less intimidating.

2 down sides to Anhydrol Forte - can sting like hell and be very uncomfortable, can also seriously stain/damage clothes. I think it would be worth seing a GP for a consultation to checkout her Thyroid and make sure that's not overactive. If all that is OK - Botox is a very good option. It shrinks the glands and therfore reduces sweating. You do need further injections but the interval between injections lengthens out as time goes on. I don't know the price in Ireland but in UK it works out between £250 -300.

There is an operation that can be done for some conditions.
I forget it's name (best ask doctor).
Involves snipping something under your arms - seem to remember having a low sucess rate and being painful though.

    Is your daughter overweight?

Thanks so much for all that advice..
Yes she has gone to the doctor.. not sure if he checked thyroid.. I assume that he did. she said he took blood.
She is not overweight.. in fact quiet slim.
I cant wait to see her and tell her all this stuff. She is my best friend in the world and a beautiful person. But this has taken all her confidance... not that she ever had any.
    thanks again.

    1. Yeah it stings, but that reduces over time. Frequency of use should also reduce from 2/3 times a week to about once every ten days.

    2. Apply at night, wash off in morning. No stains.

Botox and the other operation are rather extreme options. Botox needs further injections, and the operation tribble refers to has a 50% success rate (IIRC), but failure can make the problem far worse.

This may be obvious but a blood test is how Thyroid is checked. I've thyroid probs myself and never knew sweating was a possible effect! Interesting...

    Hope it works out.

Excessive sweating medically is referred to as hyperhydrosis. I'm no doctor but spoke to a surgeon that I know and he recommended the botox injections as a good solution to it.
