Okie doke. Well theres a few pubs in the village that are good enough. Then there is the GlenRoyal (niteclub, yep one and only). To even describe the glenroyal would be to shame myself into admitting having been there

Leixlip has a decent nightclub (the Ozone), a few decent pubs (the Loft, Darkie Moore's, the Three Sisters, O'Neills, the Salmon Leap, the Middle Shop, the GAA), good fast-food(most of which deliver for €1), nice range of shops (some of them sell drink). Nice place.

    Houses in Leixlip

Maynooth is lively now, but I don't know what its like during the summer months, when the majority of students are gone.

You're better off living in Maynooth...it's nicer. Loads of Intel workers live in Maynooth. I spent all summer here too and it's much quieter without the students but still good enough....I actually prefer it.

Where you from? Are there other work placement people coming with you?

Ah I see you're from Cork too....goody...I'll make ya feel welcome ;)

I met a gang of UCC students on work placement this year and became friendly with them. They loved it so I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

yeah by all accounts the peeps that went last year had a real good time. there are 8 of us from my class going up, some i get on with really well, others i dont know that well. we are prob going to get a place to stay togehter. But intel are taking on 200 students so there will be alot of us.

hmmmm the glen royal sounds interesting.......

Ah excellent...you'll have a blast I'm sure. Sure Dublin is only in the road anyway.

I would say you're better off in Leixlip since its closer to Intel. When you start work at 8.00am and you wake up at 8.20, its better to be closer.

(and theres no hassle getting into Maynooth when you want to)

Yeah...most people I know that work in Intel and live in Maynooth have cars so he's got a point.

Maynooth....considering 3 of the guys I used to live with during the summer (Intel workers) moved from Leixlip to Maynooth cos Leixlip was a kip (their words not mine) I'd say Maynooth.

I'm from Cork, trust your fellow Corkonian! ;)

I work in Intel and i am from maynooth,
Most of the Co-op (work placemnet) stay in maynooth and they all seem to go out together on Thursday nights in the Roost. Talked to a few of them they seem to love it, one big party.
Depends on what area in intel you work for you could be busy all the time , but if you are lucky you will be able to doss your way through it for 5 months.

As for shops well tesco have a massive new shop there and aldi will be opening shortly, ther is also a "mall" getting built at the moment massive dunnes and 20 other shops a resturant and more importantly new pub and club.
Most of the co-ops stay in maynooth so if you stay in Leixlip you will be getting taxis to maynooth everytime you go out.
Glen royal is a pretty crap but you can have a good laugh there , the roost has late licence til after 1 on wed and thurs Dj and bands usually on these days

    Muwahahahaha!

Ah no seriously...Leixlip is a bit rough in fairness...Maynooth is a lot nicer. You should come up sometime though before you make your mind up and see for yourself.

Well in fairness, what matters is the house you're living in and the people you're living with... Maynooth and Leix are 4mins apart, housing estates all look the same, and how often are you going to stop and admire the view in the town center anyway? When its time to go out etc., theyre still only 4 mins apart.

    It makes a difference though.

Being closer to Intel makes more of a difference to me... also, the Wok Inn is in Leixlip.

But then I wouldn't care, if I got a nice house with cheap rent and ppl I want to share house with in Maynooth I'd just as easily go there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭ixus

i'd recommend Maynooth. it's much better to live in. I know a good few people who did a co op there and pretty much all of them moved to manynooth. a lot of the estates are right by bus stops stops making travel easy enough in the morning.
The bus drops you right beside intel whereas intel is on the outskirts of leixlip.

If you're going to live in leixlip and end up going out in maynooth alot it'll be costly on the pocket for taxi's (just because you're earning money doesn't make you any less of a student!)and then there's the waiting around at 3/4 in the morning for up to an hour at the weekend.

    The general rule is :

    "Maynooth-good...Leixlip-bad...Celbridge-godamn fúcking awful."

No offence to anyone from either Leixlip or Smellbridge, but its true.
So come live in Maynooth. It'll do ye good. Unless ye get knocked down by a tractor of course.

That nearly happened to me today...felt like I was back at home again... :)

But yeah, out of those three I'd go with Maynooth. Listen to us, we know best :D
