Is it possible to download the two Debian Sarge DVD isos without using jigdo?

I mean, are the iso's themselves to be found anyway online?

Looking at their mirrors, it looks like the answer is no. I can only find the CDs available for download on either http, ftp or BitTorrent.

Thought as much. Gonna take an age to download 'em. Hopefully it won't be currupt like my 2.3Gb Fedora ISO was:(

Here's jigdo in action for anyone who's never tried it.

What problem are you having with jigdo?
Have you been able to burn other DVDs of similar size succesfully?
Did you download to a filesystem that handles files >2GB properly?

My first jigdo experience was on a linux format DVD, it was set up to
remaster a set of Mandrake CDs from an archive of rpms.
Removing the downloads made it easier perhaps to see what was going on.

I've found jigdo works well, and if you have recent Debian CDs to hand,
you can download only what has changed since they were burned.
This can even work if you're pulling down a DVD, as jigdo remasters
the CD/DVD from a template list of contents.

Recovery from a corrupt download should be much easier with jigdo as well,
since the damaged file is kind of likely to be smaller than a whole DVD image.
Rerunning jigdo also keeps your ISOs up to date with latest released updates,
rather than relying on the debian ISOs which will probably be the same this time next year.

Jigdo is not Debian specific - as you know since you jigdid Fedora.
Still, it was born there and is carefully maintained.
You're less likely to run into a jigdo problem with debian than any other distro.

    Good luck with it,
    NiallB

    Cheers Niallb.
I'm not really having probs with jigdo but I was more or less wondering if there were DVD iso at hand. I'm fairly new to the whole unix thing so after reading a few posts on here I thought I'd try Fedora and/or Dedian.
I realize now the jigdo way of downloading is far superior to any other method. I plan on keeping the ISO on destktop machine (XP) and installing it onto laptop. Keep it upto date etc. I'll use a dvd-rw in anycase as not to waste discs etc. I want to add drivers to iso at some stage too.

    Here's a question for ya.
I download recent Fedora from the Esat ftp using Getright (Wish I knew about jigdo before this!). The iso seems intact but it fails checksum. I tried installing a minimal install and there's errors copying files (PyXML-0.8.3-6) I'm able to extact the files from ISO ok with say isobuster.
Do ya think it's possible jigdo could maybe re-dowload the corrupt files to the iso?....or is it a lost cause? I didn't know that jigdo was not only confined to Debian.
I was gonna bin the Fedora iso but I'll hold onto a while longer......

    Cheers

    http://druid.if.uj.edu.pl/~maze/FC3-jigdo/
seems to have jigdo templates including the DVDs for fedora FC3.

You can mount the iso under linux using loopback.
If it's an iso, the syntax is
    mkdir /mnt/fedora
    mount -t iso9660 -o loop YourFCisofile.iso /mnt/fedora

Copy them to an area you'll use as an archive, and then run something
    like this on the directory:
    rpm -qp * >/dev/null
You'll get a list of the ones that fail any checks and you should delete them.
Jigdo should then take care of getting any fresh ones as well as any dodgy ones.

I can't check it out realistically, as I'm on ISDN dialup out here.

    Keep us posted,
    NiallB

I'll get that a go with Knoppix or possibly SuSe as soon as I can.

    Cheers!
