I've decided it's time to build a new computer and I've decided to go with these specs, depending on if you think they're all ok. :) It's gonna be a work in progress kinda thing, so I wont be buying everything at once.

    Shuttle SB75G2VP Barebone S-478 Black I875P,8x AGP,S-ATA and GbLAN €349.00

    Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Boxed PC800 Socket PGA478, 1MB cache, Prescott €229.00

    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack Kit w/two matched PC3200 DDR DIMMs €161.99

    Sapphire Radeon 9800 Atlantis PRO 128MB AGP, ATI,"Ultimate Edition", Full-Retail €239.00

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB S-ATA 8MB cache 7200RPM €125.01

LG DVDRW Dual GSA-4160RBB OEM Black DVD+R/RW/DVD-R/RW/RAM €88.90

    All from Komplett .

EDIT: It'll mainly be used for internet borwsing, games and listning to music.

I've always thought a custom build is more of a personal choice than what others think. If you're happy with the spec and cost then it's fine.

Personally, I wouldn't choose that barebones system or an Intel CPU, but I'm a fan of AMD and tower cases. I've just ordered a complete upgrade off Komplett on Monday. Total cost was €600 for Athlon64, 1G Ram, mobo, 200G SATA disk and a few other bits like cables, fans etc. I have everything else. I didn't find the bundles offered quite what I was looking for, plus it was only saving me €20 or so anyway.

For games the most important thinng will be the graphics card and RAM, and you've picked a good graphics card, and the same RAM I bought. You can probably get better spec RAM, but I wouldn't be too worried about that as it gets very expensive.

Right, after browsing boards for a while and thinking about my lack of money, I've decided to keep my 2.4ghz processor, and change some stuff.

    GFX: XFX 6600GT 128MB AGP (From dabs.com)

    RAM: Corsair XMS3200XL PRO DDR-DIMM 512MB (From komplett.ie)

Will the 6600GT fit in the shuttle? I was thinking it would use the pci slot too, but I don't need that, so if it does it's not a problem. Is 512mb ram enough, or would 1gb be better? I've been told anything over 512mb is a waste.

    Thanks.

1gb of ram is definatley the way to go. Current games are starting to benifit from it and its going to be essential in the near future.

Hmm, I might invest in the 1gb version of that Corsair ram. Or, get 1gb of mushkin ram on shop4memory.co.uk. I'll probably end up getting the TwinMos one from komplett. Although it's not "performance" ram, it should do me.

Now all i need is money.

Thanks for that, there seems to be a good 1gb OCZ kit for €220.

Right, I've decided what to buy except the memory. It's a toss between this and this. Anyone know which one would be better?
    Which memory timings would be better;
    Corsair: 2-3-3-6
    Patriot: 2-3-2-5 1T Rating

    Thanks.
