Can't Empty Recycle Bin!

I ripped an album to MP3 using data from gracenote. The name of the album was "Endtroducing..." (yup I know it is a great album!) ...

Anyhew as is consistent with my settings the MP3's were placed in a directory given by the album name i.e. "Endtroducing..."

I now wish to delete this but I can't, Windows moves the directory to the recycle bin and refuses to "empty" then.

It must be summat to do with the ... in the name confusing M$ Explorer.

Any ideas how to be rid of it....?

restore it, rename it and try again?

or restore it and press "shift-delete" .. deletes it without sending it to the recycle bin

I think I tried the rename already but will try again TBS...

Go into my computer. Right click c and goto properties.

Run the disk cleanup option and only tick the recycle bin.

    This always works :)

Both renaming and disk cleanup failed unfortunately....!

I could probably write a program to do it (after all it was created in the first place) but could I be arsed!?

I have the MKS toolkit for windows (provides unix functionality for windows....the ULTIMATE software :)). I'll send you the rm.exe if you want it, but use it at your own risk....I mean, it's for deleting stuff :)

If windows wont delete stuff for me, I find rm -rf [dirname] usually works.

PM me your email address and I'll send it on to you.

If you're able to write a program to delete, then you're surely savvy enough for me not to need to offer any more advice or warnings.

Oh, post here if you do PM me, so that ppl know that you have it resolved.

PM sent, now that you mention it CYGWIN would prolly do it too... in fact there are a few programs out there...

I guess I was lazy and want a simple / quick answer!

    Yours in laziness,

I can see how the name might cause havoc, with '.' being a wildcard and the present directory and '..' being the parent dir. did you try
    deltree "Endtroducing..."

    ?

    I think it's "rd /s" in winxp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭bringitdown

rd /s worked but and it is a big one:

rd /s "Endtroducing...." removed everything from ..\..\ on down (all my MP3s gone)

I have them on my jukebox tho so not a major problem... just a warning!

    M$ Suck.

I had a similar problem before with some folders. I booted into safe mode and removed them there.

Open task manager and then a cmd window. In task manager kill explorer then delete the file using the cmd window. Once you've finished just restart explorer by using task manager File --> New Task. Voila ;)
