Red Line @ Capel St.

Drove down this area at the weekend and noted that there is no signage on the approach to the junction with the tram line. This is a traffic light-ed junction but the presence of a sign would be beneficial. There is also vehicular traffic turning right from Marys Lane on to Capel St.

For the laugh I decided to see what this junction would be like from Mary's Lane onto Capel St. On Mary's Lane you have to be left hand lane to turn right onto Capel St. - this allows up to 3 cars Q out of the tram way while waiting for lights. A series of arrows painted on the road direct traffic into this left hand lane. This direction is ignored by most of the boy racer types that were on the same street. Two were lined up on the tram tracks (which are on the right hand side of the street). This means that both cars would have been in the path of inbound and outbound trams should the signals change. It seems that no matter of legislation, notices and signs will protect these drivers who are no observing road markings and signage for their own safety. Having said that, Marys Lane is not a busy road and is used mainly by traffic to the markets.

A sign that says what? Stop at the red lights PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEE.

All of this moaning from crap drivers, ignorant journalists, vote grabbing politicians and Conor Faughnan avoids the simple fact that the only signs necessary are red lights, yellow boxes and no entry signs on tram only roads. All of the trouble is caused by dangerous drivers who ignore these and expect trams to get out of their way like other road users are forced to do when they do similar things at non-tram junctions.

    Well said John R

They will want to put up signs next: "please obey the rules of the road"

I agree John but I would also think that the tram warning sign and perhaps a similar sign painted on the street would be useful at this time. If the lights fail the motoring public still need to be aware that there are trams in operation.

If lights at a Luas junction fail the Luas driver cannot move through the junction until:
    a. the lights come back online or
    b. the luas gets the all clear to proceed form a garda at the junction
