hey, i was looking at a few of the science courses in NUI (mainly physics) and was kinda of confused. So i thought, what better a place to ask. So anyone?

While i have the topic, whats the place like?

From what i hear, the course is difficult enough. I kinda did the experimental side of it in first year and that wasn't too bad. It's the other bits that make it though I think.

I know there's a few physics heads over on mikado, best to try posting on the science board: http://mikadosoc.ie/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

I study Science. It's evil, that's all I have to say about it.

    I studied science in maynooth.
I did the old course but did experimental physics until 3rd year
The physics department and the biology department are the two most student friendly faculities in the college.
The physics department are great and will do anything to help you pass your exams. I cant thank them enough for putting on extra tutorials for us near exams. they took time off to give us these without getting paid for it.
They are fantastic. As long as you go to lectures you will have no probs

I'm in 3rd Science now, not doing Physics anymore, but first year is piss easy if you've done LC physics, and maths physics is basically just LC maths applied for first year. Second ain't too bad either, except that Maths physics gets very difficult, or so my friends said!
Got a few freinds doing Exp Physics now, they aren't finding it too bad with the whole modularisation now!

What about the chemistry courses there? What are they like?

Chemistry is EVIL!!!!! I loved it for leaving cert, had my whole career planned around it, first year was excellant cause it was just a rehash of LC, but then 2nd year was a bollox, and in third year, they basically turn around and say "Everything you've learned so far is wrong! Forget it all, this is what REALLY happens......."

Same for CSSE, they spend 1st and 2nd year showing you all the things that computers can do and you think "wooo pooters can do anything" then in third year they show you in computation and complexity theory what they cant do, and its lots!

Im guessing a lot of courses are going to be like that anyway, i mean things are bound to get harder as the years go on. Plus that sounds interesting "heres what REALLY happens" :D
