hard drive help needed

    I bought a new hard drive from komplett the other day. When i put it in my external case it doesnt register in my computer. it registers in device manager but no where else. i tried it in my pc and the same thing happens. I know i probably need to format it but how do i do it when I cant find it in my comp???????

    any help will be greatly appreciated.

    It should only need to be formated. Got to control panel>Performance and Maintainence>Disk Managment and you will be able to do it from there.

    IF that dont work try the bios at d start and switch the PRIMARY or SECONDARY controllers to auto and it will detect on the stratup.
    HAving probs with my HDD at d mo :D

    exact same problem today ... my maplin external usb enclosure .. and a new disk unformatted ... was registering all right but wasn't showing up .. as a drive as ciaran said ...

    Settings -> control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> Disk Management and you should see the disk there ... format and hey presto .. she'll show up ...

    dammit now .. if only this thread had been posted earlier would have saved me about an hour of ****ing about :D

    edit: right click my computer .. select manage :)
