Was using the C: as the OS and the D: for files.....etc.....

you didnt run fdisk before installing XP did you? my advice, do the instal again, run fdisk first though and delete all partitons. then create a new partition, or two if you want the same setup as pre-installation. hope that helps!

but if he uses fdisk and deletes all his partitions he will loose what files he has on D:.. and from the way i read it he doesnt want to loose files on D:
Dont really have a solution though, sorry, maybe more detail..ie what size does the hard drive (C:) show up in my computer now, after reinstalling xp home?

Get a program called easy recovery, that'll recover any data lost from locked or reformatted disk partitions. Hope this helps.

Ok well even if you've reformatted the thing... if you haven't saved much onto it yet in the new partition then load up easy recovery and you'll be able to recover most of what you lost through the reformat. All ya have to do is a reformat scan, it'll take a while to scan the drive (probably abour 30 to 40 minutes depending on speed of hard disk and cpu) and then display the results, then you can rebuild the files to another hard disk or cd or whatever. You should give it a try.
