Has anyone else noticed how the new cylon fighters ressemble romulan warbirds from star trek the next generation?

Hey have you noticed that there's space ships in BSG just like in Star Trek?

If you look closely enough you'll find similarities everywhere. There's only so many sleek looking ship designs that you can do without invoking comparisons and personally BSG has done MORE than enough so far to create its own identity including, and by no means least, treating its audience with dignity and need to preach simple morale messages.

    [Edit] :o [/Edit]

On the topic of spaceships, a bunch of ships had cameos in the Galactica pilot, including the Serenity from Firefly.

    Gotta spot 'em all!

"...and by no means least, treating its audience without dignity..."

    Typo? :p

wow how could i have missed that, come to think of it i hadn't noticed that one of the major writer/producers of deep space 9 is the writer/producer of BSG, thanks for the patronising answer to a simple question though.

Just one thing bothers me about future character development of Starbuck...
The planet she is falling into looks like a gas giant, you know the ones, thick clouds of chlorine, rings (which the planet had), and crushing pressure when you get too deep.

You see, if she dies (of course she won't) her character won't develop much more. That would be a really brave move on the part of the writers... Kill off a key character early, keep us all guessing.

    You never know..

Season two finale - cliffhanger ending - the Galactica is destroyed.

    Ha ha

There are many, many possible enviroments for a planet.

Even look within our own system:

Venus with its sweltering, crushing, poisonous, sulpheric atmosphere.

Mars, with its thin, cold air.

Titan, with its thick atmosphere made of organic particles.

Europa, Callisto and Ganymede, with their sub-surface oceans and nebulous atmospheres.

Io, in the process of being torn apart by Jupiter's fearsome gravity...

Triton, with its volcanoes of ice.

Outside of our solar system, things get even more exotic with Hot Jovians: Worlds four and five times the size of Jupiter orbiter closer to their parent stars than Mercury does to ours.

    I can go on. :p

In a note related to Water and Bastille day-the sub-surface ocean and climatic conditions mentioned are more or less in line with what you'd find underneath Ganymede or Europa. They also get double points for Bastille Day, as the moon is shown briefly at the start is actually Ganymede (coloured blue for TV purposes, but still...), which as I said above, is strongly believed to have a sub-surface ocean of liquid, salty water.

So extra kudos to whoever does research for Galactica.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Almost all TV benefits from heavy nerd involvement :D

(this thread is over two years old! annnyywayy..)

One of the Enterprise's makes an apperance too. I think this is all in the miniseries and they're tucked into the background during one of the fleet-wide shots. Have a google for them because I doubt you'll be able to even make them out with the naked eye - particularly on a download copy.

    from Wikipedia :
"The Enterprise makes a brief appearance at the end of pilot miniseries to the new Battlestar Galactica. The ship appears in the background of a shot featuring the rag tag fleet in the upper right of the scene. The reuse of the shot as stock footage for the series has led to the Enterprise appearing in many Galactica episodes. The presence of the ship is an in-joke on producer Ronald D. Moore, who previously worked as a writer on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager."

    and here's the Serenity :

The S/FX team working on BSG also worked on Firefly.

Ha ha :) I never heard that. I found a pic there.

As for similiarities between Romulan War Birds and Cylon raiders. I suppose they do look sort of similar.

But I think the new raider is obviously completed inspired by the old cylons.

Which were around before the Romulan WarBird design of which you speak.

Goodshape, any chance of a pic of the Enterprise in that shot? Don't recall it and saw the miniseries on Sky the other week.

In relation to the cylon fighters, i saw Wingcommander on the box recently. Thought the alien fighters were kinda similar

It's only natural that the BSG guys would pay homage to ST in some way shape or form. Kudos to them I say :)

The front cockpit of the cylon raider is similar looking allright to the D'eiridex class warbird. Personally I think the Cylon ships have a lot more in common with the Centauri Sentri fighters in B5, similar wing structure and size anyway, plus they were used in high no's just like the cylons (to make up for lack of heavy warships). :D

look; if there was an originality issue in there; Im sure they wouldve been sued already: can we not just let them have their uniqueness and leave alone their Firefly and Star Trek homages? They have earned enough of their own kudos at this stage.

And the corners are cut so you don't poke your eye out. duh.
