Image printing program needed

Hallo, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a fairly good imaging program that has relatively good printing options.

My Mum needs to print her scanned pictures on specific parts of an A4 or A5 piece of paper and doesn't have a program that can do this on her Win XP computer. If she wants to print a picture it will only print in the middle or towards the edges of the paper which she doesn't want.

I want to buy her something for Christmas that will do this. I see you can do this on Photoshop but thats a tad expensive for my Christmas fund. Can you have customisable printing settings on PSP? Although that seems to be a tad expensive too.

There's a vast amount of cheapy imaging programs out there but I have no idea which to buy her as some may not have the printing capabilities that she wants. Preferably I would like to buy her a program that is fairly decent on image editing but PSP and Photoshop are too expensive for me.

    Any ideas?

I'm not sure how expensive it is, but try Adobe Illustrator or InDesign.
They're better built for printing than Photoshop afaik.

    They're way too expensive!

I just need a cheap wee thing that lets you print anywhere on a page. Maybe something like this http://www.download.com/Belltech-Greeting-Cards-Designer/3000-6675_4-10327756.html
    ?

But I can't be sure if it lets you print the way I want. (also I can't download the trial as I've got a Mac myself!)

Photoshop/Quark/Illustrator etc would be fine for what she needs but it's like trying to kill a fly with a golden sledgehammer - total overkill and costs you an arm and a leg to boot.

just download a demo of, PSP or PS if she doesn't use it that much otherwise I don't think buying something would really be doing her a favour, spend your money on something else...

I don't know of any programs that would help you with that specific need, you just need to think laterally about what you doing and test a few times to get it right...

Have a look at what is already installed on the PC - loads of programs like MS Word, Publisher etc. will allow you to do this...

It's a really sh*te setup she has if I remember. Doesn't have MS office which I was surprised at. I can't download demos as I live in a different country too.

Thanks for the advice, I'll hopefully have a day to check her pc out before Christmas shopping.

    Thanks again!

Yeah, like MS word (don't bother with publisher).
