The new rulebook- Some observations

    * It's finally hardback! Hurrah! No more falling apart! :D

    * It contains lots of very pretty artwork, some new, some older than I am. All gorgeous.

    * The background fluff has gone oldskool- It's dark and ugly. Is it a result of the Eye Of Terror campaign? There's also lots of it, and it touches on some interesting stuff I never saw detailed before, like the armies of the Tech-priests, the Imperial Navy, the Ecclesiarchy and the Administratum. Maybe it was detailed in games besides 40K that I never got to play, but it's nice to see them all in one book.

    * The rules are very condensed and clear. I can't see any ambiguity, really.

    * Not a single army list. You have to buy the Codex. This might be a good thing. I was sick of flipping between books to find the rules for a single army.

    * It contains the standard rules, the 40K In 40 Minutes rules, and the Kill-Team rules, along with a fair bit of hints and tips for each.

    * One nice bit in the hobby section was the photocopiable templates for building a bunker and ruined building. Very handy. Also, lots of advice on making loads of scenery.

    * Did I mention the artwork? It's really very good.

    * The mission lists are nice, and each mission has a few variants, incorporating different sets of special rules (night fight, reserves etc.).

What be your thoughts on the new rulebook? And the rules themselves? I'm delighted that any model within 2" of another model in base to base can fight with all attacks and special weapons in CC. Orks just got quite a bit more dangerous. :)

I also got a peek at the new Codex: Space Marines, and I'm very impressed. I love Adrian Smith's art, and there's plenty of it. There's lots of rules for making your own chapter, and finally, Ultramarines don't actually suck! :)

Glad to see the 40k in 40 minutes has been offically listed, theirs just not enough time in the day to play for 2-3 hours.

I would love to get a copy of this myself, but there arent any people around my area to play it with (ie: none), so I would never get to play with the rules, which is a shame really, even though some of the art work is georgeous and always has been top notch in GamesWorkshop, its not worth the price for art work alone.

In that case, why not try the Battle For Macragge set? It's the same price, you get a "lite" rulebook with just the rules, a rather nifty campaign manual that's good for beginneres, and a respectable set of marines and 'nids and some brilliant crashed spaceship scenery...

No. I do not work for GW. I've just been bitten really, really hard by the 40K bug again...

Its the rules bit thats no use to me though, cant really play Warhammer by yourself, and I have more than enough bugs + marines for any army (space marines come in at over 10,000 points, bugs at around 3,000).

    Horay for kill teams! :)

    Artwork is deadly aswell.

However, shelling out €50 for it kinda sucked.

It's so very nice to have all the rules in one place. It reminds me of the change from GURPS 3rd Ed. to 4th Ed. So... Tidy.
