Dell to Sell AMD???

    Every so often rumors turn up about Dell selling AMD powered computers and usually nothing happens. But the latest rumors come from the Dell Ceo himself saying they will be probably using AMD's in XPS (gaming machines) and servers but not in the desktop market as they don't want to suck away all AMD production capability. Though he does not mention AMD's leasing of production to other companys and use of IBM's Fab which will see in about a years time a significant increase in AMD's production capabilty.

    Would be interesting to see it happen. Would be a a big boast for AMD but I still would not touch a Dell even if the case was made of solid gold and quad SLI came as standard.

    You can read the reports over at anandtech.com or amdzone.com.

    wow! it has been a great year for AMD!

    I would defenatelly touch Dell! especially their laptops! I would touch(If I didn't like building them myself) and recommend Dell's desktops to anyone!

    Dell is defenatelly the best PC manufacturer!

    Fools that's the very reason why he is saying this. Intel will now give Dell even more money through their Intel Inside programme to keep Dell sweet and they may even give them a bigger discount than normal on their hardware. Dell knows what buttons to press with regards to bleeding some cash out of Intel and they are pressing them like mad in the wake of the Athlon64's success. If there is anything that can stop Dell from picking up the Athlon64's in their desktops it's Intels vast piles of cash. As for Dell using the Opteron.....it could happen, they are the only tier one server maker who isn't using it, but you never know what Intel will accept to make sure that AMD is not shipped inside a Dell box.

    Wintell = Windows/Intel/Dell

    It's that simple, they've only ever used Intel. And you have to take windows unless you buy a server or workstation. Anyone any numbers on how many windows refunds came from Dell , ever ??

    BTW: not sure now but most of the older Dimension motherboards were OEM'd by Intel, so the probably wouldnt take an AMD chip..
