Ok i got my copy of GTR today from Germany, installed the 3 small files that conerts the game to English.[incase folk dont know GTR is released in Germany only and rest of world next March would you believe].
I had decided after waiting so long i would get the German version and then the English one next year but after spending 4 hours with it today this is now an English game ,only German is the manual but as Butcher already pointed out in another thread the English manual is now available to download too.
So after this long wait what is it like?
Without sitting here all night writing about it all i can say is this is quite simply the greatest racing sim/game ever created on any format.
Physics are immense, graphics incredible and the sound oh the sound.
I have had the pleasure to take an RT 2000 car around Mondello park for 11 laps ,i was terrified, ive been in fast road cars but this relatively low powered TR 2000 car has me speechless.
Playing GTR is the only sim/game that came anyway close to reproducing this feeling on my PC.
I kid you not while having a short 10lap race in the Lambo against the AI at Bruno i was litterally shaking from what GTR throws at the player.
Physics ,sound everything hypnotises your scences .
The absolute roar from these machines is simply mind numbing and to battle with the great AI and trying to keep the car on the track was enough to generate one huge smile on my face while racing.
I had two friends here neither of which has a PC but both vowed to purchase one just toplay GTR having witnessed it in all its glory.
Make no mistake GTR is as real as it gets.
As of yet i havent tried to online play but will do tonight.
This game is simply awesome with un-matched adrenaline creating fun and realism.

Ive taken a few photos of it on my system to show you guys the English text.

    Ingame menu [in English] :)

The awesome Lamborghini roars from thepits, the sound of this beast is spine tingling.

Just received it from Amazon.de this morning, been playing it most of the evening, its everything I expected. The big GT's are quite a handfull, really requires a deft right foot for the Ferrari 550 anyways. Just finished a UKGTR praccie NGT race, good fun, didn't know the track at all nor the car, not surprisingly finished last. Worth it tho just to hear the Morgan Aero 8 at full throttle, odd looking but lovely sounding.

Are there any movies of this. I downloaded the demo but haven't had a chance to try it out. What sort of spec do you need to run it?

Its pretty congigurable on most machines judging from amount of options ingame.

    Got mine today also
    I friggin' love that 575!
I'm just wondering if I'm using the latest english menu translation, as there are still sub menus showing up in German.

It's running sweet with 4xAA and 2xanisotropic filtering (whatever the hell that does)
    1024x768 32bit colour
    On a lowly AMD XP1800+ running @ 1600Mhz (FSB139Mhz)
    GeforceTi4600
    1.5Gb DDR PC2100
all on a 21" monitor I also got today
    ;)

your 4xAA is actually FSAA[full screen anti-aliasing]which basically cuts out jaggies, for example the white line on the grass verge of a racing track is made up of many straight edges and looks somewhat non circular.
With FSAA on ,either x2,x4,x6,x8 this cuts out all the straight lines and makes it all look more curved and circular.
AA is anistropic filtering which for example take a trackside advertising boarding off in the distance, the amount of AA you have enabled draws this boarding very clear at great distances, where as if AA is tuened off one wont be able to read until one gets closer to the boarding.
It doesnt sound much but its an affect on the whole image onscreen so its not just advertising stuff by trackside etc.

Personally im running with 4xFSAA ,8xAA @1280x1024 and it looks stunning with all ingame gfx on full 45-100 fps.
I must say i need more ram as with a large field of cars with Motec running in background it does stutter somewhat.
A nice tip if you guys experience this is hit the number 3 button by default to turn off motec, hit number 2 to bring up the hud or hit 2 again to bring up small version of the hud so one can see gearchanges, then after maybe one lap turn the motec back on and all will be well.
There are more tips and edits you can make in your .PLR file.
I you guys need these tips post here and ill fill yas in.
I have an extra 512 DDR ram ordered to bring my ram up to 1024 mb.

    My system is P4 2.8 800FSB
    Radeon 9800 PRO
    512 mb DDR mushkin 3200
    80 Gig HD 7,200 rpm

    bloody amazing.

waiting on the full game atm but I've been hammering the demo around on a mates machine with the Logitech GT wheel.

god damn i want this game and that wheel!

how much/if any difference is there between the demo and full game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭ButcherOfNog

10 tracks, 13 cars, Simulation mode, Multiplayer. I think thats the main diffs, i never bothered with the demo when it didn't have Sim mode and Multiplayer in it, just played the press demo so i don't know everything that was in the demo.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Press demo has one car lister storm with simulation physics.
Official demo has 19 AI opponents all same lister storm and same track as press demo that being spa.
Bad thing about official demo was it only has semi-pro and arcade modes.
The real meat of the game is simulation mode so yes the full game is more than worth it,what you waiting for?

have you tried the lan mode? [or is there one in the final release?]

myself and a mate are biting at the bit to test it against each other :)

No m8, just offline with AI and online, its damn awesome.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

    crap. :(

was really hoping for a lan or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭ButcherOfNog

u can play LAN or online, the online works well if the servers decent and everyone has decent conns. LAN would be perfect, a GTR LAN ... drools
    :)
