Same as the other two really....

Anyone starting , or already going to, DCU in September? I'm going into Computer Applications.

Or UCD, mate of mine is doing Arts there.

The present is indefinite, the future has no reality other than as a present hope, the past has no reality other than as a present memory.

How very perceptive of you. I will immediately kill my self, or do farming or something.

Are all the seasame street characters so cynical?

    I'm in DCU,
and there's a fair few DCU people on boards.

Check out rebdbrick (www.redbrick.dcu.ie) it's the netsoc out there. It's a community like boards, only, well, different. (o:

Of course you could do things backward like me and do Arts in UCD and then go to work for a DOT.BOMB tongue.gif

This is indeed true, if I had telnet access from work, then I'd probably be on redbrick and not here smile.gif

Just finished my degree in CA at DCU, it's not a bad course, I'd recommend it.

A good friend of mine lectures on that course and would agree with you.

IT courses don't get you jobs, you're as well to do a FAS course as a degree - we all realized quite a while ago that most CompSci courses just churn out people who are good at snarfing other ppls code.

It's not peter whitaker by any chance is it?

Yea, it's worth doing a degree just for the sake of being on college though, IMO.

I'm going into 2nd year MM next year. (:

It's a good course, if a little, well unfocused.

I'd say you'll like it though, everyone seems to.

p.s. Shimoda, colm's working on a version of putty than can use https tunnelling, which means redbrick access anywhere that allows https connections. (o:

DCUs alright, CA itself is (well was) an unfocused undirected course with the vast majority of modules being a waste of intelligence although there was the odd one or two a year that I'd actually attend.
The Intra placements a load of fun, where you sit around all summer on your ass and getting paid for it.

Oh and join the Film Society http://www.filmsoc.com and redbrick sure while your at it wink.gif

I'd also agree with what ken said about CA, like most courses it has its good bits and its bad bits... and a load of useless subjuct, although now it can be worse depending on what option you choose for 2nd yr...

    What do you mean exactly?
    Which is the "good" stream?

You get to choose what you want to do in 2nd year.

One is basically more business orientated, the other software and the other hardware.

To be honest though, there's enough of a cross over there that you won't have problem if you choose either of the technical ones.

Anyway, you've got plenty of time to worry about that. 1st year CA is a doss, best year to drink yourself silly and cram for 2 days and still pass exams.

Yeah, I'm about to go into 3rd year CA.

Its a grand course, 1st year is a dos. The lectures are simple (if you know a little about computers to start with).

2nd year is a little tougher but you dont have to worry about that for ages yet (2 years if you have the good sence to fail 1st year)
