Anyone see this last night? I felt sorry for Paul McGrath. An irish footballing legend but a man with very little self confidence now. What did others think?

Re: "with very little self confidence now"

When did he ever have self confidence? He was a brilliant footballer and there seems to be a tendency for society to expect brilliant footballers (etc) to excel in other areas - e.g. family life , media handling, general intellect.

(The converse does not usually apply - nobody expected Einstein to be a great footballer!)

These people should be let live a quieter life and do what they are good at. The expectation that they can be all things to all people creates a distorted life for them and puts unfair pressures on them too.

Paul M. was from a tricky family background and never truly had great self confidence - the media may try to make us believe otherwise tho'.

Having said all that he always comes across as a very nice guy - with dodgy knees!

As usual Ryan came accross as a right patronising prick. Quote:

Ryan "Do miss your kids?" <-- (question to which he already knows answer)
McGrath "I do, I do." <-- (simple response, fair enough)
Ryan "Do you?" <-- (stupidest thing I've heard all week!*)
McGrath "I do" <-- (OhhhhhhhhhhhKayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy )

The only thing ryan was ever sucessful at was arguing with 90 year old biddies because no-one else will talk to them on his radio show. And that's only because people can't see the smug patronising look on his face when he's on the air. He surely deserves to be killed!

*up til' that poing the stupidest thing I've heard was the term 'higgeldy piggeldy' in a formal lecture regarding the mass production of computing components.

only caught the 2nd half of the program but i definitly had pity for paul, seemed he cant handle the pressure of being in the public eye at all but it goes hand in hand with his job so hes got to grind it out

i thought the end where he was asked if he wanted a drink right now? and he replied no...no.......yes and kinda looked away was done very well <omg im actually praising an rte program!>
