(Request) 40gb Ipod :: Best Price? (in Dublin/the World)

    Hello,

I'm hoping to get a 40gb Ipod in the next few days.

I was just wondering where the cheapest place to buy would be?

I'd imagine ordering from the states via Ebay is the cheapest but my main concern is the waranty issue. If the thing breaks (and from my research on them they often do) I think I might be left with no place to return it to.

I was thinking of getting one from Amazon.co.uk (about €400 inc. delivery), but once again if something goes wrong I assume I'll have to send it back to the UK. I'm not sure if its worth it to save €40.

So if anyone could advise me of the waranty situation when buying abroad (I couldn't find anything of use on the apple website) I'd appreciate it.

Also suggestions on the cheapest place to buy (E-bay)?

The prices seems to be the same in the shops here as buying direct from Apple (€448.99), but if anyone knows of a better price in a shop in Dublin, I'd be much obliged.

Sorry if I've been a little long-winded, hopefully some of you might offer some advice.

    Thanks.

Best thing I recommend is getting the ipod definitely in ireland somewhere. Ckeck out http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/irlstore?iPodStore=yes
    Not to bad for €339

The 40GB one is $399 on the US Apple site which is about 309 Euro. There may be state tax on top of this depending on where you buy it. I got mine in Oregon which has no state tax.

Apple also have shops in every big city in the US. Your best bet is if you know someone going to the US to ask them to get one for you. Alternatively Apple have a reconditioned V3 40GB Ipod online for $329. Reconditioned means returned but still new as I bought a 30GB reconditioned one a year ago and it was brand new with all packaging.

I have heard they do hold the warranty worldwide. Ebay would be the cheapest, make sure the seller will mark it as a gift of low value to avoid paying duty.
If you have done your research well you will have found that you are far better off getting an iRiver IHP-140 instead of the ipod

Heres some advice - Don't go near a feckin' IPOD, get a creative MP3 player instead.

i actually ordered the iriver from amazon and got it yesterday.

i found it a bit too bulky and the joystick too fidley so i sent it back.

the reality is, i want the smallest and easiest to use player and the ipod, for all its faults, seems to fulfill these requirements. i dont really need a radio or microphone, though the multi format support/better battery life might be a plus.

having talked to someone in apple today, it seems the warranty is worldwide. seeing as things may go wrong/take a long time ordering from ebay, i've decided to get one from amazon (again) for €400.

thanks for all the advice though.

    Thanks folks,

Ipods on the way now so it's too late.

I think I'll be happy with it though. I've done quite a lot of reasearch on all the different players in the last few weeks.

I don't much like Creatives products (I've had them before) and the nomad jukebox is too big.

The Rio Carbon which has just come out seems to be the best smaller hd player - 5 gigs, smaller than Ipod mini, better battery life etc.

That said, seeing as I am rapidly running out of hard drive space on my computer (I have about 15gb of mp3s) and it wont take a second hard drive, I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone by getting a 40gb player.

My brother got the newer iriver (300 series) which sounds great but is a fair bit thicker than the ipod and tricky to use.

Like I said I was looking for a 40gb player that is small and straightforward and I reckon the ipod is the best bet.

I may change my mind when I get it though....

    Thanks again

    I have a 40 gig ipod 3rd generation.
Great little thing. Only downside if you can call it that is that if the ipod is full then its a
total pain in the arse with all the scrolling, especially if the band begins with v or
something, all the way to the end !!!!!!!
Still its great and to those people who say get the creative, its too fecking big if you ask me

Get one of these little babies:

It's from Polaroid, it has 40GB and has Radio capability!
And it's on sale there for only 190 dollars(237 including Shipping and handling).

Why not add an external hard drive?
