WiFi Woes

    Right, this is it.

I'm doing a project involving linux, wireless cards and routing. Don't ask (yet) :)
I need a few Wi-Fi cards as interfaces.
I've been jumping through hoops trying to get my mits on a Prism2/2.5/3/Duette/GT/non-Frisbee card, both PCI and PCMCIA.
I need a card that works with prism54.org drivers/firmware and that is still available/can be sourced pronto.

Failing that, what are Atheros cards like? :)

Also, Hermes chipset/Orinoco, I do believe these are natively supported in Linux modern linux kernels. Does anyone know of any caveats, or marketing pitfalls (e.g. "Old Revision Orinoco Card 'A' is fine, but 'B' has a different chipset, same model/marketing name and isn't supported")??

NDISWrapper / Linuxant are a very, very last restort. I don't like the idea of them, and they lack certain functionality which I'd like to have (SnR, Power output etc.).

Aside from that: What card are you using under Linux, and where can I buy one?

My system: EPIA MII12000, Debian stable, 2.4.27 stock//2.6.x soonish.

This 3Com card works perfectly with Prism54 - posting this through it. It's the GT chipset. You probably already know that the driver is included in the kernel from 2.6.5 onwards, or you can get a patch for 2.4.x.

I've also just got hold of an Atheros PCI - the D-Link DWL-G520.Haven't done anything with it yet, but I'll keep you posted. Doesn't look too hard here........

Dell truemobile 1150 cards (.11b/pcmcia) can be got on ebay dead cheap and they're orinoco clones, so natively supported in linux/bsd/windows.

Chances are elara is stocking a V2 card.
Most manufacturers switched from V1 (Prism Duette) to V2 (Prism Frisbee) back in June/July 2004.

This is the main cause of my "woes", as most manufacturers kept the same model number for the card even though it was using a different chipset.

I'm looking at getting some Orinoco clones over the next week or 2.

Anyone with any news on Atheros cards?

freebeard has native support for atheros a/b/g based cards. I don't have a clue about any other os.
