I've ordered stuff to be delivered to the U.K.
They delivered fast enough (that week) and were good about a return i needed (ordered a sony ps2 extension cable instead of a proper ps2 extension cable :) )

Bought some stuff off them this time last year when exchane rates were favourable. Had no problems from them delivery was prompt (about a week). They used to have dabspoint (1 for every pound you spent) and I traded them for a polo shirt :) . I think they've ended it now. They are quite a big operation.

I have bought a few things from them over the last few years with no problems and they generally come in 3-4 days if in stock. They do have a bad reputation if anything goes wrong - search this Board. They have reduced their shipping charges to Ireland recently.

from what ive heard and read Dabs when it all goes well are great.

Con's: they use GLS who are notorious in some parts as being unreliable.
If the delivery goes tits up like it did for me Dabs' customer services department is comprised of life forms with lower intelligence than untrained monkeys who will not be of any help to you which is why I vowed never to use Dabs again.

I second CL's comments.. all goes well until something goes wrong (like the ever helpful[1] GLS losing the delivery), when it all goes horribly wrong. Everyone (yes everyone) in customer service, that I was in contact with, displayed an inability to read.

I ordered a Sony laptop from them last May. It said on the website that they had it in stock but after about a week they called and said they had none left and they would call me when they got more in. I couldn't be bothered waiting so I went and bought the laptop from the Sony site, it was a bit more expensive but they delivered it very quickly. I didn't cancel the order with Dabs and I never heard anything from them.

Bought a PC from them 18 months ago. I would recommend them.
Also check out simply.co.uk. Their stuff *should* be cheaper than other sites because they do regular price checks to keep it so.

is it just me or is their website amazingly ****e? They've a lot of stuff but its badly grouped. Like under mainboards there should be sub categories for all the different socket types. that kind of thing would make a big difference to the usability of the site.

    gripe over!

I've ordered twice off them and I only had trouble when I tried to return something. It took two months but all ended well.

The second time I ordered off them they hadn't sent my order out by the end of the next day. I email there sales dept. and I got a reply in about 10minutes says they had a shortage of boxes, but they sent it in a larger box. When I recieved the package the box it came in looked like I could fit in it. When I opened it there was masses of packaging with an oem graphics card in the centre.

Ordered a CM stacker Case and 2 120mm Led fans off them on Tuesday 2nd of Nov. Stacker arrived that Firday but the fans didnt arrive untill Monday the 8th :(

Ordered from Overclock.co.uk on Tuesday 2nd as well and there parcel arrived two days later on the Thursday.

But to be fair the shipping from Dabs was €5 and the shipping from OC was €25ish.

They will ship an order even if you've cancelled it. Happened to me last week. Cancelled it because the address wasn't completely accurate. Changed address and reordered. Both arrived. Ended up keeping both because my sister wanted the camera too.

Company I work for has used them alot over the last 5 years. As was already said, if all goes well they're good. If it doesn't they're shockingly bad.

Would be interested in seeing what'd happen if you had to send something back due to a problem with it while still under warranty.

I am currently at my wits end with Dabs.com regarding their complete ignorance and potentially fraudulent disregard for EU VAT laws.

I operate through an Irish registered Limited Company and I’m VAT registered in Ireland. The situation is that if you are purchasing goods from a company in the EU outside Ireland who are also VAT registered in their own country, then you do not have to pay VAT at source when purchasing the goods.

My previous supplier in the UK, Insight.com, had no problem doing this, and I was never charged VAT at source by them as I had provided them with my Irish registered VAT number to begin with.

However, I had to switch from Insight to DABS because of the limited selection that Insight now have.

And here’s where the fun starts re DABS.

After my initial couple of purchases and providing them with my Irish VAT number, they charge me UK VAT at 17%.

After putting through a call re their web site (they never list their phone numbers) I got a curt reply back saying that they have an Irish registered company and were registered for Irish VAT. Yet they fail to tell me what their Irish registered company is and what it’s VAT number is. The name of the Dabs employee was not put on the reply email.

I send a second reply through their convoluted web support system and get a reply from an individual stating that this shouldn’t have been the case and that I’ll get a refund and an amended invoice shortly. That was in September 2004 and as yet, I’ve got nothing, even after several emails to the person in question.

Back in February 2005, I’m stuck again and need to get something only available from Dabs. I order the goods, and guess what? Their invoice, from their UK operation, with their UK address and UK VAT number now has the VAT at 21% and not the UK standard rate of 17.5%!

Even if I was a regular individual in Ireland buying from them, they should be charging the UK rate (17.5%), not the Irish rate (21%).

After several emails (I still can’t get their phone number from their web site), in desperation I’ve turned to a friend of mine working in the Bureau of Fraud Investigation in an Garda Siochana. He recommended that I contact HM Customs and Excise in the UK about this ASAP.

I would warn any Irish customer, individual or others, to be very aware of this when dealing with Dabs.com

I think their web support is just pure pants (though you usually end up learning this the hard way)...I think if you manage to get them on the phone they're ok.
