In my view you seem to have asked about 2 types of diferant programs. 1 would be Spyware/Ad aware and the other would be virus removal.

For Virus removal I would remomend Norton Professional '05. Very good program in my opinion by there are heated debates about which is the Anti-virus/virus removal program. For info goto http://www.symantec.com/smallbiz/nis_pr/ but unless you have some way of getting it for free you'll have to go out and buying it. Its actually not that expensive and you can get Norton Internet Security Professional which includes Firewall (very essenciall these days) and the anti-virus programs plus more for under €100, i think its actually much cheaper but I cant remember exactly.

For Spyware/Ad aware programs I would recomend Lavasoft Ad-aware 6. Its reliable and updated on a very regular basis. Also extreemly easy to use. And its one of the best out there is not the best. For info goto and a trail http://www.lavasoftusa.com.

    Anti virus = AVG

it's FREE updated daily and works!

I've yet to find a definitive spyware package so i use spybot AND adaware

Norton is best imho, even though its bloatware(hogs resources).
It's not as bad if you turn off instant scan and just scan dodgy mails and files.
For spyware i've yet to find something better than webroots spysweeper.

    RKM.

Norton "Security Suite" is a bag of _____
Ive seen it in action on several PCs and it has more bugs itself than it can find.
Individually the Virus Checker works fine. The Fire wall ... whatever.
But bundled together its a mess navigationally, and its parental control
is buggy even with the latest update. It has been a nightmare on
over 10 PCs various op sys from 98 to xp.
    Run to the hills.
If home user use zone alarms - its free and avg for viruses $$ saved.

    My selection/installation is:

    NOD32 Anti-Virus (http://www.nod32.ie)
    Outpost Personal Firewall (http://www.outpost.ie)
eWido Security Suite (get it on NOD32.ie)
    NoSpamToday! (http://www.nospam2day.com)

... that takes care of most problems and the all live happily together and not a Symantec in sight :)
