I've just started reading this, and was wondering if anyone else has indulged in Banks's latest? It's a diversion from his usual culture based stories into a brand new set of charcters and issues.

As usual - the first 50 pages kinda leave you wondering if you were actually asleep in school all those years ago, as you struggle to understand some of his concepts, then it picks up the speed and you off and running.

Enjoying it so far, but just curious to see if anyone else has tread this path yet.

He goes for the wandering wry commentary style so beloved of Neal Stephenson, so its much more "bloated" than his other novels.

If you look past this, its actually fun novel to read. The Dwellers are basically the Affront, toned down, which is no bad thing. :D
