I was there for four years and left last year (2003) in another uni in dublin now wont say where, but nuim is the best you get to know loads of people rather than the coldness of other unis
P.S will the guy complaining about the queue in o briens to shut his mouth, its people like me and other past students who paid for you to have this privilage including the comfortable seats in the john hume building, with our leveys, we never got to use these facilities but paid for them knowing full well some spoilt fresher would one day have the oppertunities we did not have.

I have to admit though. It is a friendly to students university.

I've only heard of one other 3rd level institution in Ireland with a better rep and that would be IT Carlow.

Having been to IT Carlow, I'll agree with ya. The place, like Maynooth, is in a nice town, so the people are generally nice :)

the students are concentrated to a small area like carlow so getting to know people is easier. its easier to meet people who share the same interests as you drinkin, ivxx, shaggin, none of that getting 3 busses to see your mates its a 5 min walk to their gaff.
House parties are always jammed, pure student life at its best

go to the hosted domains and under the tab public click on the irish jedi council if you need a good laugh. should be renamed "irish no girlfriend (does sex with yourself count) living with parents untill iam 45 council". cant post replies though thats one of their rules so that none of them can be slagged in public.
Why do they bring it on themselves, do they like the slagging,I bet they have meetings and use brush handles as light sabers and do the woump noise.

I'm really glad to read such a positive post about Carlow and student experience; I'm from Carlow and am going to do a PhD in NUIM, having studied there for four years under and post grad. I love NUIM but not Maynooth. The college is seriously friendly with a diverse student body, but the town is less than welcoming. They don't capitalise on the student population at all, whereas Carlow does. There are lots of clubs and pubs with cheapo nights out for students. I know Maynooth is much smaller, but Cambridge isn't huge and the whole town is set up for the student population. I can't wait to see the new canteen.

It's about ten times the size of Maynooth in population and the university is way way bigger. No comparison at all really. Although Cambridge is a nice place having spent a good amount of time there. It takes about an hours walk to get to the furthest suburbs of Cambridge from the centre whereas in Maynooth you'd be well into the countryside if you did the same.
