    looking for some gudiance here.

I have a company who wants a BB setup on their internal newtork, so the usual story apache, mysql, php, phpbb etc. They may also consider using ecommerce instead as it has the CRM plugins and so on.

what would one charge for this? Another company is looking for OScommerce to be setup too, what kind of charges would be reasonable for this?

How (financially) would you handle support?

    all advise apprciated!

ok, firstly you need to sit down and work it out on paper exactly whats required
by each company. Arrange a meeting with whoever in each place you will be
using as your main contact and start with the most basic stuff and gradually
work down to the nitty gritty stuff..

If they need broabband access, sort out how many PC's need access to it, if
all then see are they networked, do they need a firewall or does it come with
the broadband, any additional cabling required, if so who will do it.. things
    like this all add up..

Plan the project fairly thoroughly as just doing bits and pieces here and there
isnt gonna help anyone and if they require updates as to how things are going
then its good to have some structure in place.

Set out steps and targets to reach for each day you're working on it.

Costwise, its normal to charge per hour but what most will expect is a set
price, so say to set it all up is gonna take 5 hours, then charge a total of
6 or 7 hours by the time you get all the bits and pieces toegther. If it runs
over then so be it, thats something you're gonna have to cover but if you get
it up and running quicker, then more for you..

With support, again decide what level they want?

Are they looking for normal office hours support?
Do they want on site or help over the phone?
Will there be a call out charge?
Will there be a minimum on site time?

Decide what level of support you can offer them..

Are you working fulltime and can only call over in the evenings?

If this is the case, probably best to charge an hourly rate for support
    and leave it at that.

Anymore questions, drop me a pm. :)

    thanks for that, good advice.

The infamous question is......... what ballpark hourly rate are we talking for this kind of job? 40, 60, 80, 90 per hour?

the first one (phpbb or egroupware) has about 7 employes.

the other company (oscommerce or similar, may deploy egroupware at a later stage)has about 10 full time & 20 part time staff

Are you registered for VAT or will it be a cash in hand jobbie?? ;)

Depending on this I would say between 40 and 50 an hour or so..
