hard drive problem?

    There is a noise coming from my laptop hard drive continuiously,it only happened today,the led light does not flash you can just hear the harddive,its not clunkin,did a virus check came up clear?anyone have any ideas

    but its about 9 days old i got the error first,C:\WINDOWS\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application, fixed that now that

    I'd take it out and put it back in, to rule out loose connections.
