    Hey all,

Is there anywhere on campus where the PC's can be used for gaming? It'd be an awful shame for that bitchin' fast net connection to be used for just course work :) I presume some of the computer peeps have found a way to work around the no games situation?

this'd be against college rules and boards.ie isn't big into helping people circumventing such rules.

To answer your question they're (admins) getting smarter and so I don't think so.

In the computer labs we have games every now and then, Unreal Tournament and CS. You can't play with servers outside on the big bad internet as far as I know.

It'd be cool to set up a computer gaming society, with console nights and LANs organised...

Officially you can't (Why would the college buy PCs just for you to game on?), but there are many rooms where people play games. But only in the evening.

The back two rows of the computers on the top floor of Engineering usually have a variety of games and porn.

The final year elec project lab has an even wider variety of both, but outsiders can't get in there.

Of course it's all against the "rules".

I'm in there right now, "working hard"!

(I actually am though for some reason - must be the two 10 page reports due in, presentation due in, project to do...dont you just love elec!)

    Anywhere not in Arts basically.

Arts student are amoung the most technically illiterate and yet need them the most.

There's a correlation there. It takes them 5 times longer to write the thing. Poor typing speeds notwithstanding, their (lack of) technical ability hampers them too.
I remember one girl having trouble printing a 20 page document, written in plain Word format. It was about 3 o'clock, and she had been in there before I was (and I worked there) typing this up from sheets. And she wasn't alone.

Ah, I had a good laugh in there. Pity the money was a load of my arse.

In my whole time there, I had 3, maybe four people offer me money if I'd type up their thesis/essay/project, after they saw me typing quickly, as I do. Mostly men, who realised that they possibly couldn't/didn't want to afford the amount I charge to do work for other people in my spare time (and it's not *that* expensive).

Another reason I'd suspect is that (a) there is a lot of Arts students (prehaps too much ), and (b) the have to type every thing. I did maths & maths physic for 1st and 2nd year and (obviusly) noone had to type em up. Same goes for biology/chemistry write ups. With the exception of physics for their write ups.

Ye, that's a bit rude, looking at porn in a public area and not sharing it with everyone else, some people!

You'd be amazed how much porn you see in the eng building. Well I suppose not too amazed considering its mostly guys there, but some of them are really really into it! After a while you learn that its just safer not to sit in the back two rows of the comp room! :D
