Over betting in Pot Limit

Is this OK or a useful (and decidedly underhanded) tactic used to pressure folds after your action??

Just wondered others opinions as I've noticed it happening alot last week when I ventured into cash games for the first time last week. This was from people I know could calculate pots and odds whilst in the middle of a nuclear blast.

I dont mind when its an obviously inexperienced player but it's starting to piss me off when it's an experienced player. Just ask the dealer! But asking the dealer is not as effective a tactic as throwing in twice the pot!

    Just curious.

I get annoyed with people constantly asking the dealer, its just as easy for you to do as him! I dont think Ive ever noticed anyone puporsely overbetting the pot.

I think a player is entitled to bet any way that they want. If it different to conventional styles this could even be an advantage to that player. There is nothing underhanded about it, and if it gives you an edge why would you not do it?

If they are purposely betting MORE than the pot in a pot limit game, then there is something underhanded about it.

Sorry HJ, as soon as I pressed the post button I knew I had misread the query. You got in there before I could delete the post.

I wasnt talking about calculating yourself incorrectly. Just deliberate overbetting.

its common for players who know that the pot is about 63 euros (say) to throw in 3 25 euro chips in order to cover the pot. Its not an attempt to sneak in a few more euros nor an attempt to bully you (they'll do that with their chips!).

I've also seen new players (usually tournie players like me!) attempt to go "all in" when the pot is about 50 euro and they have 150 in front of them!

The cash game dealers are there for a reason and I cant be arsed keeping an exact tally of the pot and will generally throw in whatever I know covers it while pointed at the pot to indicate my intentions to the dealer.

    I mean, I tip them for a reason! :)

    DeV.

Personally, I always ask the dealer whether I'm betting the pot, or raising.
With me it's a combination of laziness, inattentiveness and an inability to count.

All-In everytime and let the dealer sort it out :D
