    ...assemble a :

    PC case (Q-Tech 350W...cringe)
    motherboard (MSI NEO-V PT8)
    install CPU (Celeron D330 2.67GHz)
    RAM (DDR 512MB PC3200 Cosair)
HDD (Seagate 80 GB IDE ATA/100)
    DVD Burner (MSI DR8-A2)
    Floppy drive

((All the above cost 424 euro from komplett))

Also to install Windows 2000, MS Office etc and install a 56K modem/configure for dial-up.

I am very confident in installing, but have never done it for money as such before. Any ball park figures for doing the above?

One more thing, I am considering partitoning to keep the OS/prog files separate from the user files.

(The new owner has no idea about file management)

What percentages would be a good choice for the 80GB drive. I would doubt that not a whole load of apps would be installed, so I was thinking, 15GB maybe for C: and remainder for D:

    Thanks,
    Dara.

You can get money for this?
    Cool. ;)

I'd say about €100 would be good.
    €464 or whatever is outrageous.
15Gb will be more than enough for programs.
Windows xp pro only takes up ~2.6GB

    RKM.

I charge around 15% of the full components cost inc. delivery. If its under €500 no more than €100.

Be careful patitioning if the user isn't IT literate. Most people will go next > next > next when installing programs and the C:/ would be full in no time.

Don't bother partitioning it unless you want to have to go to all the bother of explaining to them about what partitions are, why they have a D: drive, why they should install everything to the d: drive and finally why their C: drive is now full because they disregarded everything you previously said :D

I normally charge by the hour, but it shouldn't take long with all new components. (Patching up old PCs is a pain, so I charge accordingly)
As for partitioning, I always leave 20Gb for C: and the rest for D:, then I set the new users 'My Documents' to D:\MyDocs
Finally I tell them (in writing) to always backup all of D:\ regularly so as to save their files if their HD dies...

anything more than 100euro would be a complete rip off, all that should only take no more than 2 hours.

What I normally charge for a pc fix (wiping and re-installing OS) is e30. For a build i charge between 70-120. For such a simple pc as that i would do it for e70. Cause the kompleet job incluiding installation of all software would take only 2hours
