    Hello all,

Both Christmas and New years day falls on a Saturday this year.

Does this mean the Monday and Tuesday are a bank holiday after Christmas and the Monday after New years is a bank holiday?

Or is only the Monday after Christmas & Stephen's day (Sat & Sun respectivily) a bank holiday?

If you know what I mean...

If a Bank Holiday falls on a Saturday... it is observed on the Monday.
If a second consecutive Bank Holiday falls on the Sunday... it is observed on Tuesday.

I love it when Christmas and New Year's fall that way! :D

No Christmas for me this year or next. Stingy Dutch government gives no days in lieu. I lost a total of seven days off this year because of that fücking 29th of February nudging everything forward.

    Boo, whinge, moan, cry etc.

Similar situation here in Austria but I will have the 6th and 7th of January off as we work 6 minutes extra every day and get a friday or a monday off if the holiday is a tuesday or thursday. Luckily too is that there is always at least 2 religious holidays on a thursday. As for christmas though i've to take 7 days holidays for the 23rd to the 31st. Still it could be worse!

The 29th isn't a bank holiday, though if you work in a bank they may well be closed. Or does that mean it's not a public holiday, but is a bank holiday? I get confused. Either way, normal people have to work, unless you're taking time off using your own holidays or your company closes for the whole of Christmas.

IIRC. If you normally work on a Saturday, then the the Saturday is treated as the Bank Holiday, if your contract says you are entitled to double pay on a Bank Holiday, then you are entitled to double pay on the Saturday.

Hmmm... I'm not too sure about that now tbh. Officially, ie. according to all the calenders etc., the Monday and Tuesday, (27th & 28th), are the Bank Holidays.

Wed 29th Dec isn't a Bank holiday, but if you work in the civil service or some other government type job, you are entitled to a "privilidge day" which can be taken on this day or taken later in lieu.

According to what I Know from work is that:

Monday 27th December...Public Holiday- Not Bank holiday
Tuesday 28th December...Public Holiday- Not Bank holiday

I know this cos i work on a part time non-core contract and because they are not bank holidays I dont have to work 'em....

not sure bout 3rd Jan I presumed it was just a normal working day

    hope this helps

I'm afraid you are COMPLETELY incorrect.
Monday 28th Dec 2004 and Tues 28th Dec 2004 are most definately Bank Holidays (check any calendar or diary).
Monday 3rd Jan 2005 is also a Bank Holiday because New Years Day falls on the Satuday.
