Generic IOL Broadband question

    Howdy y'all.
Im literally just about to get IOL broadband from EsatBT. Because it's got a nicer bigger upload & download cap, it's upstream is higher than Eircoms (IOL is 512K download and 256K upload) and its contention ratio is relatively high.

Just wondering from you guys (and gals!) if you found IOL to be reliable for XBox gaming and stuff?

    Does it work!!!

This is actually not IOL BB as 'we' know it. It is a product available from a limited number of exchanges (40 or so) where ESAT installed ADSL kit themselves. The real IOL BB is technically what Eircom offer , 512/128 from another 160 exchanges or thereabouts .

512/256 is legendarily fast for pings and loved by gamers , search for ESAT ADSL or ESAT BUSINESS ADSL on the Board.

Oh, so it should be ok then for gaming (bear in mind it's being shared with one other person :)?

that all depends on what the other person is doing tbh.

if they're just chatting on irc or whatever, you should be able to get your game on nicely... if they're downloading a torrent, it'll be worse than dialup.

install netlimiter on each machine and try to coordinate your downloading/gaming

Netlimiter, might have a look at that.

Basically, the two of us will be sharing the connection via a Wireless router (relatively close proximity) and will be using the connection for XBox live (both probably online at the same time). No downloading will be used :D

Do you think the connection will be ok if both of us are online using XBox live at the same time?

This is the primary reason for the broadband connection!
