It's not the mother of all bargains, actually I wouldn't class it as a bargain at all. But that being said its not a bad price, but if I were you I would definitely want 512mb of RAM especially if you plan on using XP.

This is an unbelievably bad offer, RAM not enough, CPU is a celeron, and there’s no OS, and there still charging almost 800. As much as it pains me to say this look at the dell web.

Thou art spouting crapola. PC of the same spec (assuming that Elara will use the cheapest components where we don't know the make of the part) from Komplett when the printer is taken into account comes in at just a few Euros cheaper. Not to mention that the Komplett PC needs to be built from scratch and has no collect and return warranty. It's up to yer mano if he's willing to save himself the €50 odd, time and possible hassle and go with the pre-built option. Also nearly forgot to mention that the Komplett will cost about €20-€30 to deliver and you might be waiting for certain parts.

I also took a look at the Dell site, a similar specced PC with them came in at €899 incl. VAT and delivery. See for yourself, the cost of adding DVD writers, proper speakers (incl. a subwoofer), monitor, HD space, etc is astronomical.

All in all, if you don't want to build your own machine, then the Elara PC is giving you decent value for money without being outstanding. One more benefit of choosing Elara is that it'll be easily upgradeable so there'll be no problems if you want to add another stick of RAM to keep the machine running fast.

Do you work for elara or something, how is the buy from elara going to make it easer to upgrade, and if its not then explain the above quote.

By your own calculation he'll be saving himself €170, not just €50 as you stated.

Dell computers will only take Dell branded components in many instances. Obviously, a Komplett computer, you'll have no problems upgrading.

Komplett don't do printers so that was left out. I assume that a printer would come in at around the €100 mark. Then add on the cost of delivery which would weigh in at the €20-€30 mark and you'll come close to the difference being €50.

Are they trying to fleece me with old parts or is it worth it

Would prefer not to build my own as not that capable.
Komplett you can buy the parts and they wont assemble it and I am not going to risk it no matter how easy people say it is

So if u had to choose which would it be

Elara v Marx Computers v Dell

What should I be looking for considering its for home use but I do want a CD / DVD RW and enough memory to store files, music and images. Also good printer for printing photos but not massive amounts. Also Speakers
just the basic home package that wont f**k up on me. Not looking for 2 drives just one harddrive with 2 CD drives, easier for burning
Also not that up to date with CPU's etc so is the Celeron a pile of **** or is there better ?

    Cheers

Re-read my post, you are not being 'fleeced' by Elara, since building your own PC isn't an option, then buying from them is as cheap as you can get.

    Motherboard : SKT 478 Motherboard
    Processor : Intel Celeron 320/2.4GHz
    Memory : 512MB DDR RAM PC-2700 SDRAM at 333MHz

I configured this computer for you, instead of using 2x 80 gig HD's it's actually cheaper to get 1 200 gig HD, that gives you more space than you should ever need, feel free to downgrade that if you feel the need. The CPU is only a Celeron but it doesn't really matter unless you plan on doing some gaming, video editing, etc. 512Mb's of Ram is plenty and should keep your machine fast for a couple of years. Integrated graphics, networking and sound are all fine too, if you do decide you need a graphics card later on, you should have no trouble upgrading. The only thing is that I dropped the printer since there's not a hope in hell that you'll get decent photos from it. You said yourself you won't be printing many photos so it'd be cheaper to burn them on to a CD or something and have the photo lab do them.

I would debate that you'd get more preformance with an AMD Semperon system than a Celeron but I doubt you'd really notice.

elara are pretty good generaly and this p.c. looks like a quite good deal , i would advise avoiding komplett if you arent very technicaly minded as their after sales support is abominable. dell generaly use cheap crap apart from the specs they mention in the ads and theyre difficult to upgrade, marx i dont know much about might be o.k.

That Elara specd system is way overpriced for what you get. Hell even Peats do a better deal for a prebuilt.

    clicky clicky

At €450 you still have enough left over to add more ram and what other bits and peices you feel are needed.

tbh i sold HP pc's same spec in compustore for that price, its an average price.

That's balls. Though Dell PCs used to be very non-standard, the standard size Dimensions I've seen in the past few years (since they became black anyway) are pretty standard inside - normal PSU, normal interfaes and everything - only weirdness is what looks like an ATX motherboard, except they have these weird clips instead of screws - don't know if you can fit a normal one in. Also, I hear the connections to the lights and button on the front of the PC aren't standard ATX, but it's simple enough to fix that.

Dell are just talking out their arses when they say you have to buy their RAM and stuff like this - my friend's Dimension came with the genericest of generic Hynix DDR RAM, for example. Dell just get whatever's cheapest at the time. Also, putting in any extra drives isn't a problem, except possibly trying to get a similar model floppy drive that will fit behind the bezel properly.

IF u are going to play games id say dont get celeron processor go for a real pentium 4 processor 1meg cahe ram,at least 3 ghz speed or an athlon 64 3200+2.5ghz 512kcache,model.the celeron is a crippled yellow pack cpu ,p4 only costs another 65euro approx ,,i wouldt put a celoron into my pc if i was given it for 50cent, its waste of space ,1st rule of pc building get yourself a fast cpu you can always upgrade other components as technology advances proices come down.the ideal cpu at present is an athlon 64 ,the best all round cpu in my opinion for games graphics multimedia with 64bit compatibility.
