I'm on the lookout as well. I haven't decided on a camera but whichever camera I go for will be in excess of 5 megapixels. I have compared friends 3, 4 and 5 megapixel cameras and I think the best picture quality is anything greater than 5. The camera I was using was a Sony 5.1 megapixel and I printed from an Epson printer. Overall quality of the printed picture was brilliant, but bear in mind that there are other factors such as quality of paper, printer etc.

From what I have seen so far, greater than 5 megapixel cameras are not cheap - you get what you pay for.

Megapixels arn't everything, its a bit like saying more mhz = better cpu. You leed to look at the quality of the components including the lens/optics.

I have a Nikon Cool Pix 4300. Great camera that has more features then a point a click but costs alot less the a digital SLR. There is a updated version of it now that has a very impresive optical zoom.

The number of Megapixels really only comes in to ply when you zoom in to a picture alot, or try print a huge copy (like 10 meters x 20 meters huge).

You should decide if its small point and click, bigger with more features aimed at the amature photographer or big pro SLR your after that should cut down the field a bit.

I got an Olympus C-750 zoom. Brilliant camera. Simple to use but has great advanced features.

Many websites will allow you to compare cameras.

Thread about it here. General opinion (including mine) is that you can do better for less.
