Noticed in my TV Guide with the Sun on Saturday that all this weeks programmes for PLUS were in it! Just confirms how last minute this whole deal putting ITV3 on was I suppose. What I cannot understand is how a family pack channel was replaced by a FTA channel. Does this mean the Sky price will go down?!?!? Only joking ...

Yes, it has to be the most sudden an unexpected aquisition & closure of a channel in history.

    This is what actually happened:

ITV were very eager to get ITV3 on D Sat which was widely known.

Literally at 1PM on the monday of ITV3's launch (Nov 3) ITV made a well over the odds bid of STG£10 Million (€14.5M) for their 49.5% share in GSB and Sky jumped at it. ITV then decided to pull Plus just a few of hours after everything was signed & at 5PM it ceased on all platforms, thus enabling them to replace it with ITV3.

Everyone working at Plus didn't know anything about this until shortly before the closure & was understandably an even bigger shock to them than it was to the viewers.

So all in all this bill for will go way over STG£10 Million. (Over half ITV3's projected budget.) If this channels fails there will be hell to pay at ITV. It seems no lessens have been learned since the disaster that was ITV Digital.

I was mightily pissed-off at the time myself, there's me about to sit down to watch Columbo & i get a dirty big GSB test screen on my TV.

IMHO, ITV3 is the greatest piece of useless cack that could ever have reached our screens with some shows repeated up to 3 times daily. Especially compared to Plus, one of my favourite digital channels.

It will become a good channel once they cut down the repeats. I hope the likes of "On the Buses" the old "Corrie" and "Bless this House" start appearing again.

I quite liked Plus, especially in comparison with the new ITV3 offering.

Hours before Plus shutdown I saw they had the BBC detective series
"Pie In The Sky" episode 1 showing. Oh great, I thought, now I can watch
and record the entire series from the start. Later that night I discover that tomorrow there will be no Plus.

The closure of Plus and addition of ITV3 is a net loss as far as I am concerned. Anyone know if Plus had respectable viewing figures?
Did ITV even look at them before deciding to shut it down?

Not too bad at all actually. Compare Plus with, say, E4 here
