Shrek 2 DVD

Bloody hell, 2 minutes and 37 seconds of crap when you start the dvd!

Sorry for ranting on, but the prohibited user operations on the dvd are soooo annoying! It defeats one of the features of dvd - instant access and it's making watch stuff I don't want to. I bought Shrek 2 for just that movie and the extra features I wanted, not to watch the other two forced trailers.

    Annoyed!

I was just going to cite Aladdin as even worse. And what annoys me most of all is that the trailers are all for current ****e, which will be rather less than current when I'm watching my Aladdin DVD in ten years time.

Disney are the worst in the world for this. They did it with video but at least you could fast forward through it.

I liked trailers on videos. Especially since they're dated movies like Cool as Ice.

Did you try hitting the Root Menu button? Sometimes that skips all that crap for some DVDs, not all of them, but a lot of them!

I've sometimes managed to skip straight to the menu by pressing root menu for some DVDs. I had to get the timing right, though, there's a very narrow window between accepting the commands and the trailers that lock you out.

Try repeatedly pressing the root button as fast as you can as soon as the DVD is in.

Now that i think of it theres some dvd's i have that when you turn them on just keep hitting play a few times before anything starts. Sometimes this makes the feature just play. Then you can hit the menu button to get back to the extras and stuff

How about just fast forwarding the damn thing!....works for me and it aint that annoying, in fact gives me just enough time to roll a j! :D

Actually I just remembered the ad your talking about on shrek 2, theres one really bad one with ben stiller and his 'unusual' pronounciation of madagasCAR which he says 50 times in about 2 minutes.

Can think of better ways than spending 2 minutes!!

Good god yeah those trailers wrecked my head. especially seeing as how one of them was for shark tale which is officially the worst movie in history, ever, in the history of the world, ever.

but yeah, fast forwarding seemed to do the trick. stupid trailers

Shrek 2 isn't even that good anyway.

    OH the controversy!

I hate that too btw, bloody trailers.

Well I've gone and done something I probably shouldn't.

I've ripped the dvd using dvdshrink, without all the ****e and then burned it back to dvd-r.

Some of my older discs by Warner always start the feature straight away without any menus, you can access them when you want by using the menu buttons, I like these ones!

Preventing access to the menu is a form of censorship that should not be allowed, but then what can I do eh?

    cheers

So you spent about three hours getting around the 3 minute wait?

i wonder what the legal standpoint of this is.
I mean, you buy a product and you are forced to watch advertising
before you can use the product.
You can't choose not to look at the advertising....

    Nope I spent an hour.

But, I consider it time well spent, my three year old loves Shrek and Shrek 2. Like most three year olds he has very little patience, and when he puts the disc in the 2 minutes and 37 seconds are like an eternity.

This way, he puts the disc in, sits down and enjoys the movie immediately.

The ideal solution would be for the dvd creators to at least give us the *choice* of watching the trailers or not.

    Regards
    Howard

yeah, if I had the inclination and the know how to do it I would as there's nothing worse than having your child sitting there waiting for shrek 2 to start and forcing them to watch that crap that is shark tale.

Cans you's not just fast forward it?

i know on my Shrek 2 dvd i just put it on like 32x fast forward and its over in seconds!unless you mean you just cant skip the thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,180 ✭✭✭samo

out of curiosity i tried it this morning and mine is a region 3 copy and no pressed every button the remote a million times and it will not budge past until you've been tortured by shark tale!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭Spalk0

Thats strange!.....it seems to work fine on mine!could be down to the dvd player!
