I was asked yesterday to check out a computer that wouldn’t start, After a brief look it was evident that the psu was fubared!!

I intended to replace the psu with one from a spare computer I had while a replacement was got but when I tried I found that the normal ATX psu was too large to fit in the computer case, btw the computer is a “Fujitsu T-Bird Plus GS160X PIII 500”

The psu is a switched 150W made by some outfit called Yuan-Kee the dimensions are:
    125mm W 100mm D and 62mm H.
I’m assuming this is some sort of micro ATX psu

having looked around at some of the online suppliers I haven’t really seen any like this one.
Anyone know where something like this could be got?

or would it be easier to perhaps buy a new case with a psu included, I suppose the owner would maybe pay up to €50/60 I’m not really sure at the mo, even though it’s an old machine it would probably still be worth the effort.

    Any ideas?

    thanks...

I have seen those small power supplies in Maplin but its a while ago now.

A new case would be the cheapest option but make sure that the board is a
standard atx form factor or you will run into trouble.

I had the same problem with a Tiny computer which also had a 150W psu.
it is hard to get a 150w psu so I decided to get a new case for €50.
I put all the components in the new case and guess what ! it was still dead.
it had me baffled !!!!! turned out it was the little ol Motherboard battery!
So never never overlook the obvious

yeah i was thinking along the same lines about getting a new case, good point about the form factor i'll check up on that! how would i be able to tell? i suppose if i measured the mobo and checked up on the atx specs, would that be the way to go?

i did connect the larger psu and run the machine it booted ok this was definately a burned out psu, makes me wonder how it survived this long!!

    thanks fellas
