I'm tired of paying for all the junk channels, and I just want to know if its possible to get a the Sky Sports channels on their own (plus FTV channels). The subscription is costing me €50/month and all I really want to watch is Sky Sports. I hate paying for the other crap.

    Thanks.

    In a word no!

You migbe be better off getting something like canal plus satellite setup using parhaps.

The cost might be a bit steep but at least you get FTA channels as well.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Any ideas where I can get info on a canal+ setup?

    Thanks again.

Actually, irishgeo, there is another way. If the man is happy with Sky Sports, I dont think going a very convoluted route for a Canal+ setup is right here...

Kazzer, you can't subscribe to Sky Sports as a standalone package, that much is true, but you dont have to pay for the Sky World (€62) or Sky Sports World top tier packages, you could go for the "Sky Sports World and Value Pack" which only includes the barest of Sky channels. I dont have the exact pricing on that to hand, but its around €15-€20 less.

EDIT: Got the prices from here

You are probably paying €62.50 at present, you can get that down as far as €47.50 with "Sky Sports World and Value Pack"

    DMC,

Thanks for the reply. At the mo im on the Sky Sports World package which is costing me €50.50. I notice from that link that they exclude SS3 and SSXtra in the basic SS packaage. Now and then theres a gem on SSXtra (e.g. Champions League) so I think theres not much point losing these for the sake of €3. Thanks again for your input which is much appreciated.

On the subject of CANAL+, anyone got this setup? Opinions?

    Thanks again.

Depends onthe variation of Canal+ you go for. The main one with premiership footie would be the Nordic package on 1west. An official subscription for this is not cheap. Over 600euro per annum or it could be more depending on where one sources a viewing card.

If its just football you are after go for the ART sport package on 13E. They show all Sky Prem games and also all Prem plus games. They also show a choice of 2 games at 3pm on Sat afternoons. They also show some Celtic and Rangers games also. All is needed is a six month card a viaccess cam and a digital receiver capable of taking a cam. Plus you will get a good enough signal on 13E with your minidish.

Again depending on where you source the card from you can expect to pay anything from €150 to €300 for the six month card.
