USB MAss Storage Question / Problem

    Hi all,

    Just a quick question. Does anyone know if its possible to use an NTFS formatted drive in an external USB drive case? I've got a 2.5' one to use during a laptop HD swap, but Windows XP Pro doesn't seem to like it. It loads the usb mass storage driver and then doesn't find a disk attached.

    try going into start->control panel->administrative tools->computer management-> from right hand column select -> disk management -> check if any unknown drives are listed there (usually lists NTFS formatted dynamic disks as "foreign disk"), -> if there's one right click on it and select import disk. try it.

    I have two NTFS formatted USB hard disks and both have no problem on any Xp or win2000 machine I connect them to.

    It may be a problem with the USB case for the HD

    Thanks for the replies lads - turned out to be a loose connector in the USB case. Need to get the superglue out... :rolleyes:

    I have two USB 3.5 caddies. One is formatted fat32 (so that Windows 98 systems can see it) and the other NTFS. Doesn't seem to make much difference from my experience.
