K-Lite codec pack - gone?

From the old best free software thread:
K-Lite codec pack - every video and audio codec you could need (and media player classic)

    The link's download is dead.

    Anyone got this?

The main www.k-litecodecpack.com page somehow offers a version way behind what I'm downloading from another site in google...2.34 vs. 2.27 on the official site (which wants registration and looks like the type who spam IMO)?!

All I want is a big library of codecs from a tried 'n tested source.
Infact if anyone has any general tips for codec use and programs to watch 'em with - please share them.

Oh and am I right in saying codecs can contain spyware - like DivX?

    Anyone? :D

Get the mega codec pack here, plays (almost) everything, no spyware either :)

Only install what you need when you need it. It reduces the chance of incompatibilities and problems that are likely to happen with codec packs. Also you're guaranteed the latest versions if you install em seperately, whereas codec packs can often have quite outdated versions.

You don't need a codec pack.....if you have a DVD player on your system then you'll only need an xvid codec for video playback and the ac3filter for audio playback.

    Thanks for the help.

Jade Scruffy Pail - XVid covers DivX etc. as well?

I believe with the latest XViD that DiVX playback is possible.....I obtain a lot of ripped dvd's and 99% are XViD anyway. Try installing just the XViD codec first and then try playing a DivX.....if it doesn't work you can install the DivX...

The VLC Media Player will play almost anything without any codecs installed.

I use BSPlayer Pro for viewing avi's.....it just makes them look better or something...

    Not the codecs....the codec packs!

The VLC Media Player will play almost anything without any codecs installed.

ditto and d/l the beta version available now cos it will support VobSub subtitles.
it's open source and doesn't need outside codecs which makes it easily the best around
this is dermo, too lazy to login from my own so using my bro's account

I'd certainly recommend VLC as a media player. It has no problem playing DVDs (like Power DVD, it can play DVDs stored on a hard drive folder) or any other video format that I've wanted to play over the past few months since I first discovered it. If you're into high quality audio, it will also play FLAC and Ogg Vorbis files.

Thanks for the news on the latest version just being released. Only on Wednesday, I had just downloaded the beta version for use on my laptop.

    I'm very impressed so far...

Apart from the fact you have to leave full screen to get the scroll bar...Am I missing something here?!

It's not something that bothers me very much as I rarely want to shuttle back and forward once I've started watching a film in full-screen mode.

A more annoying drawback I've discovered is that sometimes when playing audio files from another computer on the LAN, the quality of the playback deteriorates if there are a lot of computers active on the network or a lot of programs running on the local PC. I've had better performance from WinAmp in such conditions. (I'm guessing that WinAmp does more caching or uses more PC resources to guarantee uninterrupted playback). However this issue may well be addressed in the latest version.

Yeah it's true and in some ways there are benefits to not having it pop up in Full Screen.

Infact the desktop playing option is by far the coolest thing I've EVER seen. No really!

Edit: Why exactly would quicktime .mov files sometimes play in VLC Player - always with picture but only sometimes with sound? I don't have quicktime installed at the mo and I was delighted when the first file worked but all the rest are silent. Huh?
