Vienna is a lovely city to visit. The main sights are Stephansdom, Schönbrunn palace, Hofburg Palace (Spanish Riding school is sort of part of this), the Rathaus, the opera house. Another nice place is Belvedere palace but it's not as nice as Schönbrunn but it is more central. All of that is more or less in the centre of the city except for Schönbrunn. Schönbrunn is easy to get to with the underground so don't go paying a fortune for some half day tour to all of these things. (Underground from Karlsplatz which is right bedide the opera house)

There is also loads of museums and such things beside and in the Hofburg. You could easily spend a day wandering through the centre of the city and visiting the museums. Also Schönbrunn has tours and stuff through parts of the palace. The gardens behind Schönbrunn are really beautiful. You also get a view of a lot of the city from the back of the gardens.

The main shopping streets are Mariahilferstraße and Kärntner Straße. These are right beside most of those sights as well.

If you are going at the end of November the Christmas market should be going as well. There's one in front of the Rathaus and I think that is the main one in the city. These are great for Gluwein and Punschs but stay away from the Jägertee! You'll probably find some interesting stands there selling crafts of various kinds but in general most of the stands sell touristy christmas crap. I'd recommend going there some evening just after dark.

As for pubs and restaurants I can't really recommend anything but have a look here and you might find something.

Bring a warm jacket. It could be cold.

Everybody dresses immaculately and Viennese can come across as very rude.
