Red Hat installing on AMD XP 2600

Are any of ye aware of issues installing Red Hat 8/9 (or any other Linux distributions) on AMD processors? Tried a couple of times and install bombed out with generic error citing a CPU error. Installed XP to test the system and that was fine so not a hardware problem. Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried a more recent version of Red Hat Distro like Fedora Core 2 ?.
It might also be worth trying a live CD Distro such as http://www.knoppix.org
