Your right, it's a good idea but somehow it just vanished.

It started in this thread and just died.

I'd love to do something like this, I've been itching for a reason to go out and take photos. Well I've been doing that anyway but I suffer from the um syndrome, whenever I've got the camera in my hands and try to think of something to take I just "ummmm......."
[edit] and after looking at sites like http://www.fourbysix.com/ [/edit]

It shouldn't be limited to digital photographers after all it only takes a day or two for film to be processed :)

well i still think the idea needs a sperate forum or maybe we could just stickie that thread lest it get buried in camera buying questions...

ok think of a theme/subject, time frame 1 month

who is going going to pick the theme, only one person can do that we can't be argueing over theme every month

apart from that i tried to do a random thing in a google and first word the i noticed was "Rising" could we get a theme from that...

question can you include photos you've taken before or do would ya have to get get new ones?

I don't think it would need a new forum right now, maybe when it's been established a few months a seperate forum will be needed. Look what happened a few months ago when the idea was first discussed, nothing at all. You don't want a forum that'll die if no one takes part after the initial excitement wears off.

Themes could be suggested and a few, say three or four, could be picked out and voted on to decide what next months theme would be. You right, someone would be needed to pick out the three or four themes and get a vote going. We could have a thread open for a week to suggest ideas, then have a voteing thread open for another week to finialise the theme for the next month. Of course we still have to decide on an opening theme :) Something simple, we can worry about that later.

I'd go for any photos being used. Although the basis of a challange would be to go out and be creative and create new material :)

well hopefully will get something going when a few more people read this but ill insist on saying that part of the reason this didn't get going before _was because_ a seperate forum wasn't created...

who ive just had a thought, what if we made it not just a photo competition but any media, drawings etc... we'd probably get less of them, digital photograhpy is the easiest way to get something uploaded, but it would widen the possible contributors

then you have the question, whether one could manipulate your photosgraphs beyond the "only what you could do in darkroom" type stuff we've discussed before

how to vote a winner? if we get a good few entries who decides on the top 3 places etc... do we have a online voting system or a panel of judges to decide. This also leads to space neeeded for uploaded photos. There will need to be a maximum size for anything submitted say a 100k max and a 500px limit to any side of the entry.

an example of guidelines we could adopt

    The rules :

    * Up to 3 pictures allowed

    * Post up the link, not the picture

    * All entries must be in by 30th Nov'

    * Only use pictures you photographed yourself

    * If you edit the picture then tell us what you did

*please dont change pictures once you have entered them

    * Voting starts on the 1st Dec and ends on the 3rd or 4th ofDec. Anyone can vote, you don't have to have entered. Vote for your 1st 2nd and 3rd favourites. 1st choice is worth 3 points, 2nd 2 points and 3rd 1 point - person with the most points wins.

You can use your own web space, photo.net, photobucket.com or pbase.com to host your pictures for free. Or any others you choose or see fit to use.

The person with the most points is the winner - and as such gets the oppotunity to set the next months photo comp topic.

topic... I was in town other the day walking pass the Spike at about 9pm on Saturday and I again noticed how that spire had become a meeting place, I always thought the meeting places in Dublin were interesting and strange, Clery's Trinity Arch Easons etc etc... the challenge would be to take a photo without anyone waiting noticing or being bothered by it, (Oh Im just talking shots of the architecture)... and if anyone were to there a take a photo randomly they could get a photo that would convey "person waiting" but to get a good one...
