    I think you have to put both cards in "ad-hoc" mode. That would be found in the "network connections" thingy in Windows XP. Just go into the properties section of the wireless card, and search around for the setting. Or try the wireless forum, there might be relevant info there.

    Best thing is to read the manual though, i'm not 100% certain.

    Set the TCP/IP properties of both to the same IP range
    eg set the desktop to 192.168.0.1 and the laptop to 192.168.0.2
    set the subnet mask of both to 255.255.255.0

    set the connection mode of the wireless cards to ad-hoc.
    dont forget security - set up WEP if you can.

    Seriously, the manual should have most of this stuff in it.

    The machine that the modem is attached to will be the gateway . You have to set the IP address of that machine as the gateway in the network setting on the other machine.

    The way to set up the internet is:

    go to the network properties of the machine with the modem attached to it.
    in your lan (ethernet) connection properties, go properties, advanced
    in the internet connection sharing box, tick "allow other users to connect through this computers internet connection"

    set the connection to use for the sharing to your wireless network and point the other computer/laptop to use the gateway and dns of the IP of the wireless connection on the main computer.

    eg modem--->computer(ethernet ip=DHCP/ wireless ip = 192.168.0.1)--->laptop(wireless ip=192.168.0.2)

    set the dns/gateway of the laptop to 192.168.0.1

    should sort you out

    alternatively do a search for internet connection sharing on microsoft.com
    theres a guide there somewhere.
