Winamp Grievances

I know it's petty but things about this great program really bug me but I don't wanna change to anything else (I've tried).

    Anyone else have these problems:
    - Always on Top doesn't work properly. It's always checked but still happily fails to work randomly. Especially if you use the "show desktop" button...even after you re-open a program winamp still thinks it shouldn't be visible.

    - Auto-hide doesn't work either - unless you dock the toolbar. Stupid?

    - Docking is another flaw...if you dock to the top it covers the close button of every other maximised program...if you have it auto-hide then everytime you go to the top right of the screen it pops down as your trying to close the other program!

All I want is my winamp to auto-hide, stay docked and only use half of the top screen - like the picture attached!

I'm beginning to think there are no good music players available anywhere.
    Help?

Can you tell us what exact version of WinAmp you're using (1.x,2.y,3.z or 5...)?
Also, are you using any extra plugins?

I sometimes get a similar issue in Winamp 2.91, but it fixes itself when I reselect the settings/and restart it....

Use the built-in hotkeys in Winamp 5.x.

I rarely see Winamp at all anymore.

I've stuck with WinAmp 'cos it's simple and small and just plays music. Also, it has plugins that support my RF remote [hotkeys ain't good if the keyboard won't streach around the house :) ]

Otherwise I use EAC, lame, freedb.org for ripping/tagging and helium2 for organising. I might move up to iTunes, but I'm wary of DRM etc...

I'm using 5.05 - the latest AFAIK, with the modern skin. No plugins.

I don't have a wireless keyboard - but I have a wireless mouse - hence me wanting it visible when necessary.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Mec-a-nic: I wouldn't bother with iTunes - it's nice to look at, but if you've a large enough collection you'll hate the loading time - hence me using Winamp after using everything. Winamp has an iPod plugin if that's what's steering you away from it.

Bri - i've seen this problem too using the latest version on a newly patched up XP (sp2). I didn't bother looking into why it happens (not my pc) but i feel your pain because when i was using winamp on that machine that ontop bug was *REALLY* annoying.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help but just said i'd let you know you're not the only one :/

James - it IS good to know I'm not that irritable. I'm on XP SP2 also...I'll just keep looking out for an update and hope it works.

I won't hold my breath though!
