Can anybody recommend an online route planner to plan out a drive in the States?

I used a good one to plan the drive from L.A. to San Fran two years ago but I'm jiggered if I can remember it or find it now.

I'm going to Texas for a few weeks shortly and I'm trying to figure out where is within reasonable driving distance at the weekends (from Austin). In particular, I'll have a few days off over Thanksgiving and thinking of hitting New Orleans for a look see but trying to do it on the cheap so if it can't be reached in the hire car it may be a non runner.

    Thanks.

Here's an idea for a one day trip:
I visited a friend in Austin a few years ago and one day we drove to Dallas, via Waco.
We met David Koresh's mother!! (didn't know whether to shake her hand [we didn't] or run away [we didn't] - we smiled politely) and saw the location of the Branch Davidians building. Nothing there now (all burnt down) except a tree for each person who died.
We didn't go looking for Jennifer Love Hewitt's relatives (she is from Waco).

Then we went to the Book Depository and the Grassy Knoll and then onto SouthFork (closed at the time). Back in Austin we visited the university and ducked to avoid sniper fire as we walked by the tower (some guy shot a few people from the tower about 30 years ago).
The day ended up being a small 'Murder Tour' of Texas.
