i got myself some memory kingston dd2 ,...it was very pricey 200 euro almost for a stick of 512mb from a dublin retailer....i went out and got myself some heatspeaders ...mainly just to make them look the part ...anyhow i had bought two of them both 512mb ...then the other day i got myself some good copper heat speaders ...so i took of the old ones :( "which btw a the blue thermaltake ones sold in MAPLINS"....as i was taking the frist panel of the side with the memory chips on it ..."single-sided "....i noticed that the sticky layer of compond "more like doublesided salotape " that they use had pulled a couple of the transisters off "really small transisters "there is two stuck to the side of the panel i took off ...now im afraid to take the back one off

...and im not even going to think of going near the other stick "which im using now " if i did pull the back panel off " and brought it back to the shop would it be wise to tell the truth or just say it stopped working ....they come with a life time guarantee ...but if i tell the truth will they say its the blame of thermaltake ...at 200 euro a pop i want my new stick of memory asap what do you think ...come clean or bend the truth

P.S. is there some way i can get the spreader of the good stick without damaging it ????

Thats your first mistake. You can pick up good ram for 85euro for a 512mb stick online. Thats 1 gig for a mere 180 (inc postage).

As for pulling off the transistors. If you tell them what you did, and what happened, i'm sorry to say they'll say bugger off, you fecked it, you buy new ones; and they'd be right.

Of course, its up to you whether you tell them that or not... but i doubt the ram is usable if you're after pulling out some of its parts.

EDIT: i just noticed you wrote DD2, so i assume thats actually DDR2 (and not a typo for DDR), that would explain the price difference.

Thats bad luck man. To be honest I doubt they will honour the warranty, as it's clearly stated on most heatspreaders that removing it will void the warranty. Even if you don't tell them that you tried to remove it they may decide to give it a good check - and I'm fairly sure they will notice that it was tampered with. And one thing is for sure, Kingston will not be exchanging this for the retailer, so it'll be either you or the retailer that ends up paying the price. Anyway, not much help I guess, only you can decide... :)

Yeah twould have to be DDR2, since dub is using a 925 chipset.
Could try heating the other RAMstick a little bit with a hair dryer, some adhesives become more "co-operative" when they are warm up a bit.
