Can anyone recommend a good Horror author. Not the Stephen King type, more along the HP Lovecraft/Cthulhu line (and not Lumley. His mythos stuff was generally crap!).

    So, any suggestions?

    Clive Barker perhaps?

hmmmm, Barker's OK but he always seems to have an obsession with genitalia ('it was so cold he could feel it in his balls'!). Always struck me as a bit sensationalist.

I'm thinking more along the Poe style, maybe a contemporary of his??

thanks anyway. but Barker never really got me hooked in his books.

Jonathan Carroll, its not mythos stuff like, but his book o short stories 'The Panic Hand' scared me anyways. Psychological stuff, classic twists at the end of most of them.
